PRIMARY 3W & 3/4G Term Two Overview We have all settled well into our new school and are looking forward to term two! Literacy Reading We will continue to develop critical reading by forming and asking questions to show our understanding of the text. We will continue to work on predicting and visualizing. Please continue to share reading at home each night. Writing Our writing this term will be linked to our class novel The Hodgeheg by Dick King Smith. We will continue to develop story writing with a beginning a middle and an end. We will also be working on using a variety of connectives in our sentences and some exciting sentence openers. We will continue to work on spelling rules and patterns each week. Talking and Listening We will develop listening for information and key words when working on our class novel. We will then use this when talking to others. We will practise using expression to engage an audience when sharing our prepared short talk on an animal (this can be found on the homework grid). Maths Number We will consolidate and develop knowledge and understanding of order and counting using numbers within 1000. We will develop our recognition of coins and notes. We will discuss their values and use them to create different amounts to pay for things. We will total groups of coins to find out how much. We will work on finding change from £1. It would be beneficial for the children to practise this at home. We will continue to build on our skills in addition and subtraction. We will look at both mental and written strategies. We will use this learning to solve a variety of problems. We will explore arrays to develop understanding of early multiplication and division. Cross Curricular Topic/ Science Our topic will be based on the Hodgeheg. We will take outlearning outdoors to explore the natural environment and how we can use it in our learning. We will look at different animals that hibernate during the winter. We will also explore nocturnal animals and food chains.

Health and Wellbeing

Physical Education We will work on moving our bodies in different ways linking a sequence of movements to create a routine. Children will have PE with the curriculum support teacher every Monday and with the class teacher every Wednesday. We will continue to develop our attitudes towards learning in all curricular areas and exploring growth mindsets to improve our confidence and our overall learning. We will develop strategies to deal with emotions to solve friendship issues that may occur in life.

Homework Reading Please continue to share reading at home. We are still currently trying to access the Bug Club accounts, once up and running the children will be reminded of their log in. Spelling There will be focus spelling patterns that the children will work on each week along with tricky words. Please ensure you work on these at home as there will be a spelling test each week. Numeracy Please take time each evening to go over mental agility calculations to help with quick recall in class. A numeracy grid with activity ideas will be given to your child to work on.

Achievements

Please continue to send in any outside achievements to be celebrated at assembly on a Thursday.

Things to Remember

Please could all children have a named water bottle and snack for playtime. Please help children to remember to pack their reading and homework into school bags and bring to school everyday. Reading books should be in a reading bag or plastic wallet to protect them. Damaged books will need to be replaced. The children will be going outside on wet/ drizzly days so please come to school with a coat!

And Finally….

Please do not hesitate to pop in and see us if you or your child have any worries or concerns. It is always better to deal with them at the time. Thank you for all the support you give to your children. If anyone is interested in supporting morning numeracy and literacy activities please get in touch
