In speaking to Clubs around the District in the course of my Club visiting, it is clear that there is a general recognition that we need to pay attention to where our membership is heading – our average age is definitely on the high side and we need to concentrate on introducing new members, hopefully in a younger age group. It is good news that Clubs have identified this issue and that many of them are actively trying to do something about it. It is also good to know that a number of Clubs have already engaged with CEP and most Clubs seem to have identified membership goals and are working toward achieving them. The extra good news is that the new Club initiative in Taradale in Zone 2 is making excellent progress. At the time of writing this, a public meeting has been scheduled for 29 August in Taradale to launch the new Club and 52 people from the area have indicated that they will be attending. The signs are certainly very promising that a new Club will be chartered in the near future. This has been achieved by co-operation among the Clubs in the Zone, by making full use of the assistance provided by the New Club Consultants, and by following the guidelines provided by Lions Clubs International. All those who have been involved would agree that, while there is some hard work needed, it is very rewarding and spreading the load among the Clubs in the Zone certainly makes it easier. They have found that there is definitely real interest in the community in Lions Clubs and that there are certainly people out there who are interested in joining if we give them the opportunity. Being involved in the process has also given Clubs in the Zone ideas as to how to increase their own membership, so the overall effect has been very positive. The need to form new Clubs is a major part of International President Barry Palmer’s theme for this Lions year and it is something we definitely need to think about in 202M. Over the last two decades or more, the number of Clubs has dropped dramatically and there are too many areas now where a Club once existed but has disappeared. The room is still there, the people are still there, and the need is still there. It is over to us to identify these areas and be proactive about putting new Clubs in place. The Zone 2 initiative has shown what is possible, let’s keep it rolling! David McDonald District Governor 202M

Good news about membership We have been hearing a lot about membership recently and it is nice to know that there is some good news. In speaking to Clubs around the District in the course of my Club visiting, it is clear that there is a general recognition that we need to pay attention to where our membership is heading – our average age is definitely on the high side and we need to concentrate on introducing new members, hopefully in a younger age group. In Memoriam

Farewell and Thank You

Acknowledging the contributions of the following members

Tinakori Lions - Andrew Walklin

We have all been very distressed by the news that lion Andrew Walklin died on 20/8/13. Andrew suffered from cystic fibrosis but still managed to live a full & useful life, including being the president of Tinakori Lions a couple of years ago. He is going to be greatly missed he was a very brave & inspirational young man. Our sympathy goes out to his parents lion Margaret & Doug Walklin.

Tinakori Lions update

Tinakori Lions have lots of books collected for their garage book sale on 14/9/13 at 275 Karori Road.

They have also started making marmalade & jam for the Thorndon Fair in December.

TRUSTEE VACANCY

The Lions Clubs New Zealand Child Mobility Foundation was established to operate, protect and manage the former MD 202 Hart Walker Project.

The Foundation’s purposes are wholly charitable and include benefitting the community through making provision for the physical, mental and emotional needs of children within New Zealand with a disability that limits mobility. The Trust Deed offers Trustees the widest powers to undertake their duties and to offer guidance and assistance to the Child Mobility Co-ordinator. Trustees receive total indemnity from the Trust Fund with the term of office being 3 years, with reappointment permissible.

A Trustee vacancy has arisen and therefore the Foundation invites applicants to provide their reasons for seeking the position, along with a concise CV outlining the attributes that they would bring to the Foundation. IT experience would be welcomed but not essential.

Applications (preferably electronic), marked confidential, should be sent to the Executive Officer by 1 November 2013. The Foundation’s Trustees will make the selection and the appointment ratified by the Council of Governors at their November 2013 meeting.

Send applications to: Executive Officer [email protected] or post to Lions Clubs International MD 202 Office, P.O.

Box 691, Orewa 0946.
