    DOMAINE CHERRIER

François and Jean-Marie Cherrier took over the family domaine from their father in the 1990s. Their best vineyard is La Croix Poignant, situated in the village of Chaudoux, north of Sancerre, where the soil is a complex mix of silex, clay and chalk. Vinification is in stainless steel vats followed by six months ageing on the fine lees to develop greater richness and complexity.

    2018 Pouilly-Fumé Les Chailloux £ 198.00 £ 16.50

    2018 Sancerre £ 210.00 £ 17.50

One of the great domaines of Pouilly. Vincent Chatelain owns some of the best land at Les Berthiers where the silex soil helps to produce fine, aromatic wines of great intensity. Their fabulous cuvée known as Les Charmes is partly fermented in new oak barrels adding an extra dimension to the traditional crisp fruitiness of Pouilly-Fumé. Les Chailloux is a single vineyard with a high proportion of silex soil which gives a wonderfully in-tense, characterful wine.

    DOMAINE CHATELAIN

Recent additions to our portfolio are these delicious wines from Benoit and

Fabienne Godon-Reverdy in Sancerre. Their 12 hectare domaine is based

in the village of Verdigny in the heart of the Sancerre vineyards where the

Reverdy family have been making wine for over 20 years.

Fabienne’s husband, Benoit Godon, has been responsible for the

viticulture and wine-making since 2008 and the estate is now firmly

established as one of the finest in the appellation with a superb range of

    white, rosé and red wines.

    DOMAINE AUCHERE *NEW*

Jean-Jacques Auchère heads up this 10 hectare family estate at Bué in the Loire’s Sancerre appellation. The family’s winemaking techniques have been passed down through the generations. The estate produces vibrantly fruity wines with a touch of salinity & excellent balancing acidity.

    DOMAINE SÉGUINOT-BORDET

Jean-François Bordet can trace his family’s roots in Maligny back to 1590. The estate lies on the right bank of the river Serein, where the rich Kimmeridgian soils give the wines the minerality so typical of great Chablis. His unusual horizontal fermentation tanks give the wines more lees contact during maturation, adding to the complexity of this beautiful, pure, unoaked chardonnay.

    2015 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre £ 384.00 £ 32.00

One of the most historic domaines of the region, with a reputation for producing a crisp, pure expression of Chablis. In 2014, the estate was sold to the Nuits-based Maison Faiveley and the wines are now made by Olivier Bailly, estate director, and Jérôme Flous, technical director of Faiveley.

    DOMAINE ROY

The Roy family have been vignerons in the village of Fontenay, just to the north of Chablis, for over 200 years. Today Claude Roy, together with his daughter Karine and nephew David, farm 20 hectares of vines on the right bank of the River Serein. They are one of the largest owners of the grands crus including a magnificent 3.5 hectare plot in Bougros. They have only recently begun to bottle a significant proportion of their harvest, having previously sold a majority in bulk to the negociants.

    SAMUEL BILLAUD

Samuel Billaud is one of Chablis’ finest winemakers. For over twenty years he has been responsible for some of the best wines produced in Chablis. He established his own winery in 2009 and, in 2014, his estate was greatly extended when he recovered his share of the Domaine Billaud-Simon vines after the family estate was sold to Faiveley.

He has now built a new winery in the centre of Chablis where he ferments the wines in a mixture of stainless steel vats and 450 litre demi-muids as well as using the traditional 228 litre burgundian pièces. Samuel’s vines were hit by frost in 2016 and 2017 so yields were low but quality was high.

Jacques Carillon’s cousin, Jean-Marc Pillot, has reduced the amount of new oak that he uses in recent vintages. Long, cool fermentations followed by 15 months ageing in cask give rich, intense, concentrated wines with powerful aromas and opulent fruit on the palate. The Chenevottes comes from sixty-year-old vines which produce wines with great intensity and depth. All his wines show well when young but also have sufficient acidity to age gracefully.

    DOMAINE GÉRARD THOMAS ET FILLES

Gérard Thomas is supported by his daughters Anne and Isabelle at their small estate at Saint Aubin, immediately behind Puligny and Chassagne-Montrachet. Saint Aubin offers some of the best value in the Côte de Beaune; aromatic, oaky wines in the same style as their better known neighbours with great freshness and good balancing acidity.

    2017 Puligny-Montrachet MAGNUMS 6x150cl £ 480.00 £ 80.00

Sylvain & Béatrice Bzikot own an impressive estate of 15 hectares in Puligny-Montrachet. Sylvain’s grandfather arrived in Burgundy from Poland just before the second world war and steadily built up the estate. His Puligny-Montrachet is 100% fermented and aged in small French oak barrels and is one of the best examples in the village.

    DOMAINE JACQUES CARILLON

    White

    2017 Chassagne-Montrachet £ 528.00 £ 44.00

    2017 Puligny-Montrachet £ 612.00 £ 51.00

Jacques owns land in the prime vineyards of Puligny and Chassagne, including four premiers crus and the grand cru Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet. All the wines are barrel-fermented in 20-35% new oak and aged for twelve months in cask followed by six months in stainless steel vats. The style remains that of classic white Burgundy, built to age, with a winning combination of ripe fruit and thrilling acidity.

    DOMAINE VINCENT ET FRANÇOIS JOUARD

Brothers Vincent and François (right) are the fifth generation to run the 11 hectare family domaine, but the first to bottle the wines themselves. Situated in the heart of the village of Chassagne, the domaine is blessed with a fine array of premiers and grands crus. Aged in 1/3 new oak barrels for eleven months before bottling with only the lightest of fining and filtration; the wines are elegant and restrained but with great depth and concentration.

Jean-Baptiste progressively took over from his father Michel in the 1990s and has now installed himself in a brand new cellar next to his house in the centre of Meursault. Like many domaines, Jean-Baptiste is now bottling later than in the past, giving many of the wines fifteen to eighteen months ageing in cask rather than twelve. This is now one of the appellation’s top domaines.

    2017 Meursault £ 408.00 £ 34.00

This is an outstanding 8 hectare domaine spread across 30 plots in both Puligny and Meursault. No insecticides or pesticides are used in the vineyards, with every effort made to preserve their natural balance and biodiversity. All fruit is harvested by hand and only the best fruit is picked, at optimum ripeness. Following a gentle press, every parcel is vinified separately in temperature-controlled tanks to preserve freshness, followed by 11 months in oak barrels with regular bâtonnage.

    2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières £ 660.00 £ 55.00

Jean-Louis makes a forward, fruity style of Puligny. By picking a day or two later than most in the village the grapes are riper and the resulting wines are softer and rounder with lower acidity. The wines are bottled early, about fifteen months after the harvest. Jean-Louis has recently introduced a few 350 litre demi-muids from Meursault-based tonnellerie Damy to his cellar. This is a splendid source of ripe, fruity Puligny, delicious relatively early but with the balance to age well in the medium term.

    DOMAINE HENRI DARNAT

In 2000 Henri and his wife Marion took over the family domaine which had been established in the 19th Century and they now own 5 hectares of organically farmed vineyards. Henri believes in picking at full ripeness and is prepared to lose volume by waiting for the optimum moment. As a result, he is often one of the last to finish harvesting in the village. This is a delicious range of wines; full of ripe fruit balanced by crisp acidity.

    DOMAINE YVES BOYER-MARTENOT

Since taking over his father’s estate in 1998, Vincent Latour’s wines have been highly praised both in Burgundy and further afield. The hail of June

2014 resulted in low yields, half of the previous year, but the quality was great producing some magnificent wines with excellent richness and minerality.

Nuiton-Beaunoy is the only co-operative in the Côte d’Or, with 260 members and 140 individual domaines. Winemaker Sébastien Sauvageot (right) has been at the helm since 2008 and is producing an extremely approachable range of wines which offer exceptional value.

Franck Lamargue has been running this 12 hectare domaine based in the village of Le Rochepot, just over the hill from St Aubin, since 2005. The vine-yards are worked organically and the grapes harvested by hand. A com-bination of new and old oak is used to vinify a range of generous whites and reds that offer tremendous value for money from some of the lesser-known villages of the southern Côte de Beaune.

The Girards are one of the oldest winemaking families in the village of Savigny-Lès-Beaune and produce gloriously aromatic, fruity Savigny. Jean-Jacques and his son Vincent use a combination of modern and traditional techniques to produce wines of great purity and elegance. The reds are delicious, accessible wines which are fantastic for drinking when young but also have great potential for ageing. The whites have benefitted since the construction of the new winery in 2014 which allows them to be fermented in their own separate temperature controlled cellar.

This is a true family enterprise. Bertrand and Martine Ambroise head up a 21 hectare domaine with much of the work done by their son François and daughter Ludovine. The estate style is one of rich opulent whites and full-bodied, powerful reds that age spectacularly.

Vinification is traditional; nearly all the pinot noir is destemmed, given an extended maceration of 15 to 25 days and aged for 12-18 months in a mixture of 400 litre and 228 litre barrels, a high proportion of which renewed each year.

Subtle changes are afoot at this great Nuits domaine. Pierre Gouges’s son, Grégory, is making his presence felt and since 2007 the construction of a new cellar has enabled the wines to be vinified with less pumping. The wines are racked later and the proportion of new oak has risen to over 20%. Overall, the wines retain their traditional ageing ability but are more approachable when young. We are delighted to offer a selection of older vintages that are now drinking superbly.

His father, Michel, started with 4 hectares in 1967 gaining an international reputation for his full-bodied, concentrated reds. Frédéric joined in 1993 and has gradually tempered the style, reducing the amount of new oak and producing wines with more aroma, fruit and elegance without losing the trademark Magnien depth and richness.

They believe in retaining a significant proportion of the stems during fermentation to give added aroma and structure. All the wines are aged in small oak barrels for 18 months, drink beautifully when young but have the richness and concentration to age magnificently.

Vinification is traditional with most of the fruit destemmed and given a five day cold maceration before fermentation in steel and cement vats at a maximum of 28C. In 2017, Vincent was careful not to extract too much tannin so reduced the amount of pigeage and ran the wine off the skins after 15 days. Ageing is in barrels from François Frères and Seguin-Moreau, whose fine-grained oak complements the wines. These are rich, elegant examples from all the finest villages of the Côte de Nuits.

The estate encompasses 10 hectares of red and white Mercurey in the Côte Chalonnaise. Nathalie believes the best wine starts with the finest quality grapes – there is minimal intervention in the vineyard and all the fruit is carefully handpicked into traditional wicker baskets.

One of the very finest family domaines in Givry, run since 2008 by Nicolas Ragot. He has taken the estate to new heights, extending the vineyards, constructing a new vat house and eliminating the use of chemical herbicides. 9 hectares of which 70% is red Givry including the fine premier cru La Grande Berge. Wine-making is traditional; all the fruit destemmed, fermentation in stainless steel vats followed by twelve months ageing in small French oak barrels from the tonnelleries Taransaud and Hermitage.

Owned by Roger and Christine Saumaize, the estate has been fully biodynamic since 2005. The vines are now naturally lower-yielding and disease-resistant, 40-45 years old on average and are planted in a patchwork of marl resting on limestone subsoil, resulting in wines with increased complexity. The wines are fermented in 20% new oak barrels using only indigenous yeasts.

Le Rouvre is a plot selection from the "Chassis" area located within Pont de l'Isère where the domaine has its oldest vines (over 50 years old). Yann’s emphasis is on ripeness and finesse with grapes being harvested by hand as late as possible. He uses large 600 litre casks (100% new for Hermitage and 50% for Le Rouvre) to give a delicate oak character to the wines.

Not a fan of new oak, Stéphane uses older barrels which give finesse without overpowering the fruit.

Pierre’s son, Jérôme, has taken this famous estate to new heights. Lower yields, later picking and 100% de-stemming have contributed to richer, more succulent wines and purer fruit flavours. The terraced vineyards are largely south-east facing on schist and granite and are hand harvested. The Saint Joseph develops complexity with age giving notes of violets, raspberry and cassis. L’Olivaie is a cuvée from selected 50-60 year-old

    vines.

A beautifully positioned property north of Chavanay overlooking the Rhône; Philippe and Véronique Grenier run their estate on an organic basis. Hand-harvested from plots towards the top of the hillside, the wines are fragrant with pure fruit flavours and elegant tannins. This wonderful domaine is little known on export markets at present and represents great

Mireille and Magali Fabre are third and fourth generations to run this 40 hectare estate which comprises vineyards both on the famous galets roulés in the south of the appellation and further north on the cooler soils of Brusquières, Terres Blanches and Fargueirol. The vineyards are farmed without the use of herbicides and harvested by hand before being vinified and aged in a mixture of cement vats, large oak foudres and smaller Nadalié barriques.

Château Thieuley is situated at La Sauve Majeure near Créon, 20km east of the city of Bordeaux, in the heart of the Entre-Deux-Mers. Marie and Sylvie Courselle have taken over the running of Château Thieuley since their father Francis retired. Both sisters are qualified oenologists; Marie has worked alongside her father for the past ten years while Sylvie returned from a stint working in vineyards in the south of France.

Château Fayau is the heart of a family-run estate located in the pretty village of Cadillac owned by Jean Médeville, who is the principal winemaker aided by his brother, Marc and cousin, Jacques. Their vineyards on the right bank of the River Garonne are perfectly located for the production of rich, generous reds and delicious, sweet whites. The Médevilles also own Château Barbier, a fine Sauternes property in the village of Fargues.

When Jean-Pierre Moueix founded his business in 1937, the wines of Saint Emilion and Pomerol were little known. A great pioneer of his generation, he developed wines of the highest calibre and opened eyes around the world to the quality that the right bank wines of Bordeaux had to offer. Today, his son Christian, and grandson, Edouard continue to produce some of the finest wines of the region.
