Stag SaleFairlight Station is a Historic Southland High Country property. It is 2000 Ha.

The Hub of the station is the Historic Fairlight Homestead, built in the 1860s by Captain John Howell, who founded Riverton. It is one of the oldest houses in Southland and is listed with the Historic Places Trust.

It has extensive and rugged hill country and the Mataura River runs through the farm dividing the flats and hill.

Typically we have hot dry Summers and cold challenging winters. The property faces north and is exposed to the prevailing nor’west wind.

In 2002 Doug and Mari Harpur purchased Fairlight Station. They had also recently purchased the neighbouring property of Cainard and Forest Creek Station up the Rangitata Gorge. The Harpurs are established Red Deer Farmers in North America and are involved with the Forestry industry.

Breeding Objectives for Fairlight; The vision for Fairlight farming is to have a sustainable farming operation, integrating sheep, cattle and deer that equally contribute to the profitability.

All of Fairlight is deer fenced, so all stock are integrated throughout the farm, priority for best pasture changes during the year between the stock classes.

The MA hinds spend on the hill with no supplement. Only the AI hinds fawn on the flat.

We are targeting high 12 month growth rates and to achieve this we put emphasis on;

Early Fawning, Culling dry and wet dry hinds, with no tolerance for poor temperament.

We are killing more than 90% spikers before Christmas. The average weight has lifted to 57kg, we are aiming for 60kg+.

Our MA commercial hinds average 110kg, maintaining an efficient hind on hill country is important (ie mature hind weight). To do this we work closely with Deer Improvement and their genetic breeding programme.

We have a closed herd, AI provides all our new genetics.

Conditions Of Sale

1. The sales will be conducted by PGG Wrightson with the conditions of sale as set down by the New Zealand Stock and Stations Agents Association, a copy of which is exhibited in the office on sale day.

2. Each lot becomes the purchaser’s property and risk at the fall of the hammer.

3. Warranties and Insurance are covered under separate headings.

4. Terms are strictly cash unless prior arrangements are made with the auctioneers. Accounts not paid within 14 days of sale shall bear interest, at current rate per annum from the date of sale.

5. The sale is conducted exclusive of GST.

6. A buyer’s commission of 4% is payable to non-participating companies and recognised independent agents introducing and accompanying purchasers to the sale providing prior arrangements (no later that 24 hours prior to sale) are made with PGG Wrightson.

Intending purchasers are required to register with the auctioneers prior to the commencement of the sale.
