The Chem Show, North America’s largest process equipment and technology exhibition, will return to the Jacob K. Javits Convention

Center from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1. Over 300 exhibitors will display equipment, systems and services on the show floor, providing engineering solutions to an expected 10,000 visitors. Additionally, visitors will have the opportunity to participate in several special events, including the Educational Conference, organized by Chemical Engineering, the Nanotechnology and Nano-bio Symposium and Workshop and pre­sentations at the New Products Tech­nology Theater.

This year, the keynote presentation will be delivered by Dr. Kevin Swift, the chief economist and senior director at the American Chemistry Council. At 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, he will pres­ent enlightening information in his speech, entitled, “2008 and Beyond: Can Growth in the Global Chemical Industry be Sustained in Light of Re­cent Economic Headwinds?”

The Educational Conference is de­signed with technical workers in the chemical process industries (CPI) in mind, delivering current and practical information to chemical engineers of all functions. The Conference follows

three main tracks, which represent important topics that are at the fore­front of engineering issues today. • Efficient Bulk Solids Handling. In

all areas of the CPI, nearly two-thirds of output is handled, pack­aged and marketed in solid form. The handling of bulk solids pres­ents an array of challenges, and this track aims to deliver useful rules of thumb, best practices and design considerations to overcome these challenges and handle bulk solids more efficiently

• Financially Sound Green Engineer­ing. Often, green engineering solu­tions are both good for the environ­ment and cost-efficient to run. This track addresses green topics such as energy efficiency, alternative fuels, heat transfer, water supply and the impacts of potential greenhouse-gas regulations, all with consideration on business implications

• Smooth, Safe and Secure Processes. By ensuring that a process is safe and secure, costs associated with down­time and personnel injury can be reduced. In these sessions, engineers can learn how to predict and pre­vent equipment failure, streamline complex tasks, and collect and man­age data with the goal of minimizing costs and keeping personnel safe

The nanotechnology and nano-bio symposium and workshop, organized by Innovative Research and Products, Inc. (Stamford, Conn.) emphasizes the emerging technologies and markets of nanotechnology, nanomaterials and nano-bio convergence as they relate to nanofabrication, pharmaceuticals, ad­vanced computing, energy storage and more. Cutting edge research in the field presented by leading scientists and business leaders will be summarized. This event will bridge the gap between technology and commercialization, giv­ing engineers and business leaders alike a chance to learn more about cut­ting edge research in nanotechnology.
