Introduction:-

In present era the world is facing many environmental diseases. An estimated 12.6million people died as a result of living or working in an unhealthy environment.

WHO estimated in 2012 nearly 1 in 4 of total global deaths occurs due to environmental diseases.

Environmental risk factors are air, water and soil pollution, climate change, chemical exposure UV rays.

In ayurveda our acharyas already described environmental health in form of Dincharya, Ritucharya and Janpadodhvansa

Acharya Charak has also described symptoms of samanya vayu (Normal Air) , Vikrutvayu (Polluted air), and vishdushit vayu (poisoned air).

It is not possible to explore such a vast topic air pollution in a paper, hence I have chosen single air pollutant i.e. mosquito repellent among all air pollutant.

AIM OF THE STUDY:-Mosquitoes, tick, sandflies are responsible

for vector born diseases like Malaria Dengueetc.

To avoid these diseases people using mosquitorepellent coil, liquid etc.

Pyrethroids seriously affect the sodium channeland hyper excitation of the nervous system.

Subnormal or super normal excitability byaffecting the sodium channels opening time.

Smoke of mosquito coil contains particulate matter (2.5) which is equally produced by smoke of 75-137cigarettes and release of formaldehyde from burning of one mosquito coil is equal to same mass produced by burning 51 cigarettes.

Other health related disease caused by mosquito repellent are:

*Asthma *Lung cancer*Allergy* Throat infection.*Skin rashes*Swelling, *Anaphylactic shock*low blood pressure.

So their is need to find out Ayurvedic potential In vector control

Prevention by Ayurvda:Echo friendly herbal mosquito repellent:-

In this study an echo friendly mosquito repellent is mad by cow dung, Nerium flower, Tulsi leaves, lemongrass oil, loban powder, Neem leaves with binding agent like maida, saw dust.

In this study significant effect of echo friendly mosquito repellent found than commercial mosquito repellent and has no side effect like that.

Citronella Oil:Source- Cympogon Winterianus (Rohish) Citronella (Rohish) is a native plant of India and tropical Asia.

Characteristics of oil:Citronella oil is a colorless or light yellow liquid with a characteristic woody, grassy, or lemony odour, citronella oil has minimal or no risk to wildlife and environment due to its toxic levels being low and it’s use being limited therefore it can be use around the home with no expected adverse effects.

As insect repellent:-Citronella oil repels insect such as mosquitoes black flies, fleas and ticks therefore preventing it’s bites, it is used on human and their clothing in the form of oil liquid and patch.

NEEM OIL:

Source- Azadirecta indica:-

The Neem tree is a tropical evergreen tree native to India and is also found in other south east countries.

Active ingredient:-Azadirectin

nimbinNimbidin

NimbidalSodium nimbinate

GeduninSalanninquercetin.

As insect repellent:-Neem’s natural mosquito repellent properties are an important weapon in the fight against Malaria

In 1994 Malaria research center of Delhi, India tested and proved that

1% Neem oil can protect people frommosquito bite.

In a study Sharma V.P. et al proved that 2% of Neem oil mixed with coconut oil,

protection for 12 hr. from bites of all anapheline specles.

Lavender Oil:Source: lavandula

lavender oil is also an antiseptic and can be used for wound disinfection it is also useful in treatment of alopecia areata fungal infections acne and eczema.

When diluted to 30% in 1,2propanedial had 100% repellencies

Pepermint oil:Source:- Metha piperittaCharaterstics of oil:- It has a fresh , sharp, menthal

smell is clear to pale yellow in colure and watery in viscosity.

As insect repellent:- The essential oil of M. Piperitta has promising

and remarkable repellent activity against Ae. aegyptiadults.

Saritakumar et al has proven and established efficacy against the dengue vector larvae.

Conclusion :-

vector born disease is a serious public health hazard and commercial chemical based mosquito repellent again show hazards in the human even they control mosquito

In Ayurvedic classics like Kashyap samhita in Dhumadhyay he had described various variety of dhumdryavyas which could have a significant effect on indoor air pollution as well as the would act mosquito repellent without producing any adverse effect on human body.

So now their is a need to make a effective Ayurvedicmosquito repellent with the use of herbal drug
