Preventive Healthcare Today,Innovative Treatment Tomorrow

The National Congress (NC, Korea General Assembly), which celebrated its 9th anniversary this

year, is the largest domestic event of KNAPS, attending pharmacy students from all over the

country. At the 9th National Congress in 2021, we would like to invite renowned speakers from

various fields to talk about the theme of ‘Preventive Healthcare Today, Innovative Treatment To-

morrow’. In a rapidly changing era, it will be a good opportunity to have a new perspective on

prevention, health and treatment.

In addition to the seminar, there are various competitions where you can check and experi-

ence pharmacists’ basic skills and knowledge, and public health campaigns where you can learn

pharmacists’ skills in the public health field.

We hope that National Congress will be a meaningful time for many pharmacists as it will be

held online for KNAPS members who have passion for pharmacy despite the COVID-19 situation.

After the Spanish flu in 1920, a life that has never been experienced is expected to continue for

quite some time due to COVID-19 , and IPSF’s World Congress, which was expected to be held in

Seoul last year, was postponed to 2021. Regardless of how the WC event will be held, I have no

doubt that KNAPS will do a great job of promoting the potential of Korean pharmaceutical students

to the world. The World Congress in Korea in 2021 will provide opportunities for Korean pharmaceu-

tical students to become the future leaders of the global pharmacist society.

Now you are holding the 9th National Congress online with the theme of “Preventive Healthcare

Today, Innovative Treatment Tomorrow”. This event will also be presented online, which we have

never tried before, but as the infectious disease is spreading all around the world, I’m sure you must

have thought a lot about the role of pharmacies and pharmacists. I hope you can successfully design

your future through the informative events of our National Congress.

I also want to thank all the speakers today, including Ms. Yeowon Son, the former head of the Korea

Food and Drug Administration, Professor Seungjin Bae of Ewha Womans University, CEO Yoonseop

Choi of Digital Health Care Partners Co., Ms. Minjung Geum from Sinchon Severance Hospital, and

Mr. Gyuhan Chae from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.

Lastly, despite COVID-19, I want to thank the KNAPS executives, including Chairman Seok-jin Ko,

who prepared this event, and hope that this two-day event will proceed safely and provide an op-

portunity for a big leap forward.

Dear KNAPS Students

KNAPS AdvisorProfessor Kwon Kyung-hee,

Director of Pharmacy Training Center, College of Pharmacy, Dongguk Univ.

Welcome to the 9th National Congress in KNAPS 2021.

In 2020, which was swallowed up by COVID-19, pharmaceutical and bio-industry have received

unprecedented attention from around the world. At the same time, research and development

has shown some results, such as COVID-19 treatments and vaccines approved for emergency

use, and unexpected safety issues were also raised.

At this NC, under the theme of “Preventive Healthcare Today, Innovative Treatment Tomorrow,”

we invited top-notch speakers in the pharmaceutical industry to discuss safety and health care

in a new era.

Along with this, we have prepared the “Patient Counseling Event,” “Compounding Event,” and

“Clinical Skills Event,” which will be the basics as pharmacists, so that you can think of all the

basic skills and new skills to be equipped for future pharmacists.

Through this event, I hope that everyone who attended this event will not end up with a two-

day lecture, but a starting point to constantly think about and develop themselves in a new era.

A new era coming, and things to think about at the center.

20-21 KNAPS PresidentSeokJin Ko

As the new year of 2021 is just started, we’ve come to see you at the 9th National Congress. After

the sudden cancellation of the National Congress last year due to the spread of COVID-19, it was

very regrettable that various events were not held in the Academy and education team due to the

seldom diminishing trend. This year, I hoped that everyone could gather together and have a free

discussion time about the pharmaceutical industry, but on the other hand, I think it is fortunate

that I can visit you online. For this National Congress, our Academy and education team has worked

hard to conduct PCE, CE and CSE in high quality online, so we ask for your expectation and interest.

The theme of the 2021 9th National Congress is ‘Preventive Healthcare Today, Innovative Treat-

ment Tomorrow’. The pharmaceutical students in this position may have heard that pharmacology

is evolving from a cure-oriented science to health, and even prevention-oriented science. But we

would like to bring a new perspective to this. I would like to invite prominent speakers from each

field to discuss in-depth how the current health and future treatments can be envisioned.

As a pharmacist, what do you think of the future pharmaceutical industry? How much will it be

changed after listening to the lecture compared to before listening to the lecture? I would like to

express my gratitude once again to the speakers who readily accepted the lecture request for our

pharmaceutical students, and hope that this event will be a turning point for the participants as we

have prepared our best.

As a pharmacist, what do you think the futurepharmaceutical industry would look like?

20-21 Chief ofAcademy & Education Team

Sunghyun Park

20-21 Chief of Public Health Team

Yeryeong Choi

Thank you for your interest in the 9th National Congress in 2021.

Greetings as the Chief of Public Health Team at the 9th National Congress this year. The Public

Health Team, the 10th subcommittee of KNAPS, established in the second half of 2020, is plan-

ning a public health campaign to promote public health. The global public health crisis has

changed the lives of all, and the role of pharmacists as professionals to protect the safety and

health of the people has become even more important. This is the time when we need to think

about firmly establishing the role of a pharmacist and strengthening our skills.

At the National Congress with the theme of ‘Preventive Healthcare Today, Innovative Treatment

Tomorrow’, we would like to have a moment to discuss how Korean health care has developed

and what direction the future treatment should take. Along with the lecture, we have prepared

a campaign for the role of the pharmacists in the public health field and a campaign for World

Cancer Day, so we ask for your interest.

Thank you for your interest and support to the National Congress. We hope that through this

National Congress, we can actively share and exchange knowledge to draw a blueprint for the

future of the Korean pharmaceutical industry.

What is the role of pharmacistsin the global public health crisis?
