Preventing Falls
• Wear appropriate clothing.• Keep the floor clear of clutter.• Wipe up spills, splatters, and

Handling Sharp Edges• Only use a sharp blade.• Store knives in a separate drawer, knife
block, or knife rack.• Always use a cutting board.

Preventing Fires and Burns
• Keep the stove clean. Grease build up can cause a fire.
• Keep cookware in good condition. Check for cracks and warping.

Cooktop Safety*Handle pots with dry pot holders.
*Turn pot handles to the back or center of the range top.

Oven Safety*Arrange oven racks as needed before you turn on the oven.*To remove baking pans, stand to one side when you open the oven door- away from the heat rushing out.

*Clean up spills and crumbs after the oven has cooled.

Using Electricity Safely
In order to prevent electrical shock:• Before using electrical appliances,
read the owners manual.
• Check cords for damage.

counter.• To disconnect a cord, always grasp the

*Heimlich maneuver- procedure for dislodging an object from the throat of a choking person*uses a series of upward thrusts on the abdomen
