Pressure on the Physical Environment
How do physical processes shape natural landscapes?
Glacial Scenery (Lake District)
Glaciers
• Glaciers form when the climate becomes cold enough for precipitation to fall as snow. The weight of new snowfall turns the underlying snow to ice. When ice moves downhill under the force of gravity, it is called a glacier.

TRANSPORTERODE DEPOSIT
The main source of material called moraine comes from freeze thaw weathering or frost shattering.
Glacial Erosion
Abrasion – is when the pieces of jagged rock and gravel carried by a glacier rub against, and wear away
the sides and floor of a valley
Plucking – is when glacial ice freezes onto solid rock. As the
glacier moves, large piece of rock are pulled away with it.
Glaciers are very powerful. They erode, transport and deposit material creating unique landforms.
