Ali-X, the « World-Musique Orphan », is a world-pop singer, keyboardist and accor-dionist from the vibrant multi-cultural Montreal World-music scene. His stateless nomadic pop-electro-jazz « world-musique » sung in French, Creole, English and Por-tuguese. His music mixes the textual quality of Chanson française to the richness of afro-latin grooves. Son of an Haitian guitar player and French teacher lost between the New York and Montreal, his origins and numerous collaborations have influenced his creation. ALI-X lived in Brazil where he composed for the local hip hop scene, he studied classical piano in Canada and pop and jazz arrangement in the U.S.A. at Berklee college of music. Two times winner of the Galaxie Rising Star Award with two different music groups (2012-2013), he played with many world-music bands : coming from Cuba to North-Africa.
Ali-X (Alix Noël-Guéry) plays with his Montreal-based quintet, his « music thieves »: André Galamba on guitar from Brazil, Andrew Bruhelius on bass from Germany, Fré-déric Bourgeault on trumpet from Nicaragua, Tacfarinas Kichou on percussions from Algeria and Michel Brindis on drums, from Cuba.

artistic process
The goal of this project is to explore in depth the mix of Afro-Haitian, Afro-Brazilian and Afro-Cuban styles - twoubadou, son and samba - and modernize everything in a Cana-dian approach. This will connect Ali-X to his roots and main musical influences, as he did an internship in Brazil and a tour in Cuba. The research will try to find the links between these creolized music of the Americas. Thus, the artist will observe the characteristics of these traditional rhythms and extract a common essence seeking also to incorporate them in a Montreal, urban or universal approach. This personal style will promote French, while leaving room for other languages such as Creole, English, Portuguese or Spanish. It will draw on bands like Zuco 103, who mix very skillfully electronic sounds and world music. Therefore, it will use both samples and live recordings, and will not hesitate to incorporate keyboards of synthesized sounds with traditional instruments.
