21 April, 6 p.m.
The artist and theoretician Warren Neidich, Los Angeles, will give a performative lecture at theFaculty of Fine Arts, Skopje on his versatile art practice and his unique proposals for new
teaching methods and performative mnemonic techniques for artists.Warren Neidich is an artist and theoretician from the US who was invited by the Faculty of Fine
Arts - University Ss. Cyril and Methodius, Skopje, Macedonia in the framework of The FulbrightSpecialist Program. During his residency in Skopje Mr. Neidich will realize his project
University Without Walls in collaboration with the students and the professors of the Faculty ofFine Arts in Skopje.
The project deals with the urgent need to address the biopolitics and hegemonic powers of the
university and the democratization of academic teaching methods by introducing new methodsand tendencies in higher education, particularly at institutions teaching Fine Arts. The project is
going to be implemented through various participatory and collaborative workshops, seminarsand performative lectures.
University Without Walls is one such event that strives to revitalize discursive practice as a
cultural enhancer; new vocabularies wrapped in new performance modems act to create anddramatize transformative student driven activities. Mr. Neidich will activate one such workshop
as a performative lecture Some Cursory Comments About My Wall Drawing. Produced withparticipation of the students, this rendition of the drawing entangles the relations of the
conditions of new labor, tertiary economies, neural and cultural plasticity and historicalmaterialism. Earlier renditions of the diagram were first created at IASPIS, Stockholm, 2008 and
then performed at The Drawing Center, New York City, 2009 and The Temporary Kunsthall inBerlin, 2009. Here for the first time in Skopje the drawing initially acted as a teaching device
with which to revitalize student enthusiasm for the Power of Art as a cultural andneurobiological modifier.
Warren Neidich is the recipient of the Vilem Flusser Theory Award, 2010, The Fulbright
Specialist Program, and the Macdowel Foundation Fellowship, 2010. He will exhibit hisAmerican History Reinvented at Galerie Moriarty, Madrid, Spain as part of Foto Espana, 2011.
He recently co-authored Cognitive Architecture: From Biopolitics to Noo- politics.
