"Today's article underscores my track-record of being a watchful steward of tax- payer dollars. I have developed a reputation for advocating for students and teachers while asking the hard questions when it comes to funding of education and spending the hard-earned tax dollars of our community. The larger issue isn't this particular incident, but rather who has the ability to stand up and ask the tough questions." Montelongo led the charge against several controversial spending projects during her time on the Ysleta Independent School District and raised concerns about impropriety and the appearance of ethical lapses. Montelongo went on to say, "I think voters have a clear choice in this election. They can choose an outspoken advocate who isn't afraid to challenge the majority, ask the probing questions, and be a mindful steward of public funds, or they can vote for someone like Carlos Leon, who has documented ties to people in the public corruption scandal like Sonny Garcia, Bob Jones and Larry Medina. I think the choice is clear for people on the Eastside."
