Woodford who will present: “TASHMOO: THE PARK AND THE STEAMER” Saturday May 12, 2012, 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the Lions Hall on Harsens Island; and, conduct a book signing for his newly released book: “Tashmoo Park and the Steamer Tashmoo”, Arcadia Publishing: http://www.arcadiapublishing.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=VPROD&Product_Code=9780738593548 Library Administrator and Historian, Art was born in 1940 in Detroit, he attended the University of Wisconsin studying civil engineering, and then went on to Wayne State University, where he graduated with a B.A. in History, and the University of Michigan, attaining the his M.A. in Library Science. Subsequently he served in various branches of the Detroit Public Library, and then as Assistant Director of the Grosse Pointe Public Library. He left Grosse Pointe in 1977 to assume the directorship of the St. Clair Shores Public Library. He retired in 2005. From 2007-2008 and 2009-2010 he served as interim director, Suburban Library Cooperative. His published works include: All Our Yesterdays: A Brief History of Detroit (1969); Detroit and Its Banks (1974); Detroit: American Urban Renaissance (1979); Charting the Inland Seas (1991); Tonnancour (1994, 1996); Village on the Lake: The History of St. Clair Shores (2001); This is Detroit: 1701-2001 (2001) published to celebrate Detroit’s 300th birthday; Michigan Companion (2012); Tashmoo Park and the Steamer Tashmoo (2012). He is listed in Who’s Who in America, Contemporary Authors, and Michigan Authors. Art served in the U.S. Naval Reserve (1958-1964). His avocations are tennis, bridge, reading, and model shipbuilding. He and his wife, Mary, reside on Harsens Island, on property that was once part of Tashmoo Park. The Historical Society takes great pleasure in presenting Arthur M.
