TO WRITE MEMOIR FOR CROWN ARCHETYPE

(June 28, 2010, New York, NY) Barbara Eden, the television and film actress best known for her starring role as Jeannie in the iconic hit television series I Dream of Jeannie, has reached agreement with Crown Archetype, an imprint of the Crown Publishing Group of Random house, Inc., to write a memoir that will chronicle her colorful life and a remarkable Hollywood career spanning more than 50 years, it was announced today by Tina Constable, Vice President, Publisher, Crown Archetype. Titled Jeannie Out of the Bottle, the book is scheduled for publication in spring 2011. Sydny Miner, Vice President, Executive Editor, Crown Archetype, acquired North American, Open Market, audio, first serial, and electronic books rights from Dan Strone, Chief Executive Officer, Trident Media Group. In her book, the beautiful blonde star with the hourglass figure whose wholesome all-American sexuality fueled a million teenage fantasies, will share fascinating stories about her relationships both on-screen and off with a host of Hollywood luminaries, including I Dream of Jeannie co-star Larry Hagman, Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, Warren Beatty, Bob Hope, Clint Eastwood, Paul Newman, William Shatner, Marilyn Monroe, Carol Burnett, Lucille Ball, Lonnie Anderson, and Barbra Streisand. Beyond the glamour and glitter of her legendary career, Ms. Eden will also candidly discuss in her book her dramatic life odyssey, including her own personal tragedies: the birth of a still-born son; her relationship with her verbally abusive, cocaine-addicted second husband; and the accidental heroin-induced death of her 35-year-old son, Matthew, just months before his wedding. Wendy Leigh, a New York Times best-selling author of eleven books, including True Grace: The Life and Times of An American Princess, will collaborate with Ms. Eden on the writing of her book. As a Hollywood leading lady, Las Vegas headliner, and star in musical theater, Barbara Eden has continued to demonstrate her unique talent and box office appeal on screen and in personal appearances. She began her acting career in Hollywood, starring in the Broadway smash hit comedy, The Voice of the Turtle, at the Laguna Playhouse. It was on the Fox lot that Barbara was cast in the TV series, How to Marry a Millionaire, in the role originated in the film by Marilyn Monroe, who was also working at the studio at that time. Barbara was cast in seven feature films, including On the Terrace opposite Paul Newman, and as the romantic lead opposite Elvis Presley in Flaming Star, the only movie in which Elvis didn’t sing or kiss the leading lady. She later moved to Columbia, where she starred in a number of other feature films. The turning point of Barbara’s career occurred at Columbia, when writer-producer Sidney Sheldon cast her his Jeannie in the groundbreaking long-running television comedy classic, I Dream of Jeannie (1965-1970). On the air for 139 episodes, the series has continued its broad popular appeal on cable and in syndication to the present day as one of the all-time comedy television series. The show earned Eden two Golden Globe nominations, and multiple other awards here and abroad. She continues to make television guest star appearances on such recent shows as Lifetime’s hit, Army Wives, The George Lopez Show, and the HBO movie, Always and Forever. When not appearing in film or television, Barbara frequently returns to live theater, and for the past three years has been starring in Neil Simon’s hit comedy female version of The Odd Couple and the comedic/dramatic two-character play, Love Letters, alternating with co-stars Hal Linden and Larry Hagman.
