Topic: Press Conference to discuss the profit
sharing problem between producers,
distributors and multiplex operators.
Subject: Public RelationsClass: S.Y.B.M.M
Major producers including the likes of Yash Chopra (Yashraj Films),
Mahesh Bhatt, Ramesh Sippy, Mukesh Bhatt and Sandeep Bhargava(Indian Films), directors like Karan Johar, together with a surprise union
of Bollywood actor/producers, Shahrukh Khan, all teamed up together at
a press conference to discuss the profit sharing problem between
producers, distributors and multiplex owners.
The producers and film makers wanted 50% of box-office profits made
by multiplexes. Especially in the first four weeks of release of any film.
Compared to the share that does not give producers proportionate shareof profits due to differences in the model. The multiplexes were not
willing to accept this and wanted the revenue share to depend on a
performance basis. As it is done internationally. They said profits should
be shared greater if the film does well, subject to a maximum percentage

and less if the film flops, subject to a minimum percentage. Not the same
for every film.
Aamir khan commented that the ticket charges charged by multiplexes
were also high and prohibiting many people from watching films madefor the people.
Shahrukh Khan said that this dispute was not for greed and used the
slogan fair rights for Friday nights to mark the basis for their argument.
Especially with the aim to give smaller and lower budget films support
with this initiative.
Mukesh Bhatt, Chairman of the producers Association, said, The
carpenters, the lightmen, the spot boys, they have understood theproblem. But unfortunately the corporate did not understand, the
multiplex corporate did not understand, they chose not to understand.
The objective of the press conference was to discuss the profit sharing
problem between producers, distributors and multiplex operators and to
settle down the dispute between them and to establish a friendly
atmosphere.
The press conference was attended by producers, directors, actors and
media people.
According to me the effectiveness of the press conference was that
finally the stand-off between Bollywood producers and exhibitors has
ended. The tiff between Multiplex Owners and film producers over the
profit sharing ratio has been successfully resolved at last. Mahesh Bhatt
confirmed the news saying, yes, the strike got over at 3 am. All the
parties agreed to our demand and will be releasing films soon

TOPIC: VIDHU VINOD CHOPRA FACED A
LOT OF FLAK WHEN HE LOST HIS COOL
DURING A PRESS CONFERENCE.
The cast and crew of 3 Idiots walked into their press conference on
Friday in Delhi looking a little tense. There were Vidhu Vinod Chopra,
Raju Hirani, Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Omi and the
film's writer, Abhijat Joshi. Boman Irani joined them later . Vidhu Vinod
Chopra had a spat with a journalist when the journalist asked the director
questions regarding the controversy behind the storyline of 3 Idiots
(2009) and that of a book written by Chetan Bhagat. At one point early
on, after VVC announced that they'd put their contract with Chetan up
on their website, a journalist asked him about the points of similarity
between the book and the film. VVC asked him if he had read the book.
The journalist replied that he 'knew about the book'. At that point, Vidhu
gave a heated reply, saying that when he hadn't read the book, he had no
right to make that accusation, ending with a shouted, 'So you shut up!
Immediately, another couple of journalists got up and joined the onewho'd been shouted at, all of them angrily demanding that VVC
apologise on a public platform to them. Aamir Khan and Raju Hirani
immediately took the mike, apologising profusely and asking for calm to
be restored, but when the shouting continued, Hirani got very upset as
well. He also heatedly began to explain scene-by-scene comparisons
between the book and the film. From then on, Aamir dominated the
mike, helped cool things down, and articulated the filmmakers point
politely, restoring order to the situation. Other media persons joined hisefforts by asking for 'deviations', and bringing up other issues and
subjects in the film to keep the conversation away from the contentious
issue.
The press conference was not effective because it turned into havoc and
created a controversy.

THE CLAIMS MADE AND ANSWERED
Chetan claims that the makers have abused the contract, which stipulates
a payment of Rs 1 lakh to him before the release of the movie, and Rs 10
lakh afterwards, depending on the financial fate of the film. He says thatthey can credit someone else for the screenplay, but not for the story,
which is from his book. He says that he was told that the film was only
"2-5 per cent" of his book, and wasn't shown the script or the film before
its release; also that his credit was "hushed away" at the bottom of the
end credits. He says he tried to contact the filmmakers before writing his
blog, but they didn't respond.
