Through volunteering efforts, many members have always given of their free time to serve others by volunteering in their respective communities. Upon retiring and moving to OMM, and with considerably more free time, many OMM members find many opportunities to explore new adventures or pursue different hobbies or passions—and many others delight in continuing their volunteer work both within OMM and in the greater community.

Next Door Neighbor Program VolunteersThe phrase “Love Thy Neighbor”is not just a creed to members at OMM, it’s important to the social fabric that makes up the OMM lifestyle. In a survey done 40 years ago nearly half of all Americans said that they hung out with their neighbors at least twice a week and connected with them daily. Today, studies show that few people know their neighbors’ names, and far fewer report interacting with them. Not so, at OMM! The Next Door Neighbor Program validates everyone’s first impression of our community—as a warm, inclusive and welcoming place to call home.

The program features volunteer members whose homes are located within the various residential neighborhoods of OMM. The volunteer, selected by their home’s proximity to the new, incoming member, will drop in to say hello and leave their contact information or call to welcome their new neighbors and new friends. The volunteers extend an invitation for lunch where they review the Manor Mirror and pour over the extensive calendar of events, learning about one another, finding things in common and discovering the kinship that binds the neighbors at OMM. An orientation tour of the community is also offered with introductions to staff and members alike as they visit common areas and dining venues.

Marketing Ambassador ProgramThe Marketing Ambassador Program has become a valuable part of one’s introduction to the community. First impressions are perhaps the most important factor when it comes to choosing a new home. The Ambassadors offer prospective new members a personal perspective and a sincere take on what it is like to live at OMM. From greeting guests at events, to hosting informal gatherings in their homes, guiding community tours or sharing an enjoyable one-on-one lunch with prospective members, these volunteers make time in their lives to share their experiences. They also serve as valued resourses to the marketing team, providing welcomed feedback and suggesting improvements during marketing brainstorm sessions.
