We were not able to have our joint USGBC meeting last year and I know that was a disappointment, but it is this February! It is about ASHRAE 90.1. The seminar will cover the impact the standard will have on codes and projects in Arkansas. Don’t miss this one……. We have a new refrigeration chair. His name is TJ Bell. Since it is fairly late in the year, he has agreed to stay on next year as well and we are thankful for that. If you see him, please say hi. President's Report

Our February Meeting (Feb 7th) is at Camp Aldersgate!

This is our Joint USGBC meeting!!

We were not able to have our joint USGBC meeting last year and I know that was a disappointment, but it is this February! It is about ASHRAE 90.1. The seminar will cover the impact the standard will have on codes and projects in Arkansas. Don’t miss this one…….

We have a new refrigeration chair. His name is TJ Bell. Since it is fairly late in the year, he has agreed to stay on next year as well and we are thankful for that. If you see him, please say hi.

All of the things happening in ASHRAE has been made possible from volunteers. Thank you to everyone that gives of themselves to make our chapter great.

Topic: ASHRAE 90.1 – Its Impact on Codes, Standards and LEED Projects in Arkansas

Description: ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2007 for Energy Efficiency is the reference for the current state of Arkansas Commercial Energy Code, but several local jurisdictions, surrounding states, federal projects and LEED v4.1 require adherence to newer versions. What does this mean for Arkansas?

Learning Objectives:

1. Learn how the newer ASHRAE 90.1- 2010, 2013 and 2016 will impact your projects.

2. What do the current LEED v4 and proposed v4.1 require from ASHRAE 90.1?

3. How do HVAC suppliers and consultants meet these higher standards while staying within clients budgets?

4. Have updates to more stringent requirements in ASHRAE 90.1 standards over the years resulted in measurable energy savings on Arkansas Projects?

Presenters: Jim Chidester, PE, CEM, LEED Fellow and Linda K Smith, USGBC Director, AR and OK

Bios:

Jim Chidester is a Senior Mechanical Engineer with Batson Inc. His twenty-plus years of consulting engineering experience include HVAC and plumbing systems design, for commercial buildings, with special emphasis in energy-efficient design, energy studies, and energy modeling. His resume includes experience on more than two dozen LEED buildings and numerous energy projects. He is also the mechanical engineer-of-record for the first LEED – Gold Certified building in the State of Arkansas. Jim is a Professional Engineer, licensed in a number of states, a LEED Fellow, and a Certified Energy Manager. He is a 1993 graduate of Arkansas State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Cum Laude. Jim is a member of AAEE and ASHRAE. He is also a member of the U.S. Green Building Council, for which he has served in numerous volunteer roles, both at the state and regional level. He was named one of Arkansas Business Magazine’s Top 40 Under 40, for 2010. And, he serves on the Board of Directors for Christopher Homes of Arkansas and on the ASU College of Engineering ME Advisory Board.

Linda K. Smith is the current Director of the U.S. Green Building Council – for Arkansas and Oklahoma. She graduated in 1984 from the University of Arkansas with a BS in Chemical Engineering and spent 15 years working for Exxon Company USA and two smaller petroleum distributors in technical sales and engineering support with accounts in the Midsouth region. Following early retirement from the petroleum industry, she moved to nonprofit management and became the Executive Director of the USGBC- Arkansas Chapter in 2009. The U.S. Green Building Council- Arkansas Chapter seeks to create a legacy for future generations based on responsible planning, design, construction, and operation of the state's buildings, landscapes,

cityscapes, and neighborhoods. Linda is an active community volunteer for large nonprofit construction projects including the Woman’s City Club renovation, Second Presbyterian Church Capital Projects, Ferncliff Camp, and the new sorority house for Delta Gamma at the University of Arkansas. In 2010 she was named the VIPs Jane Mendel Volunteer of the Year for the 26,000 member Little Rock School District. Her passion is public school and math curriculum improvement.
