Darlington School and Community AssociationPresident’s Report – 3 June 2009

Lulu Mitchell

• Mothers’ Day Movie Mayhem - was a massive success. The S&C and all the parentswho made use of the evening are very grateful to the school staff for staying back so

late to feed and entertain our children. Particular thanks go to Colleen, Phil, Paul andLesley. Others? At the Fathers’ Day Movie Mayhem on 4 th September we will stipulatethat only children who currently attend Darlington can attend.

• Plaques with acknowledgement of traditional owners have been completed and lookgreat. They will be installed on the outside of the school near the gates and theunveiling will take place with a smoking ceremony during Koori week – Monday July 6.Julie Moffat deserves the credit for obtaining grant money and making this happen.Uncle Max has been asked to perform the smoking ceremony on this date. The schoolwill be involved, also community members. Please let Julie know of any communitymembers you feel we should invite. So far Willie Leslie at Eora, and Aunty Beryl Van-

Oploo at Yaama Dhiyaan have been asked. Julie suggested we ask the councilcontact person for the grant project, Rob Welsh or a person to represent Metro LandCouncil (who advised on the wording). There will be $80 remaining after the smokingceremony, which we need to decide how to spend (photography, publicity, morning tea, etc). Also, this event and day will be a good day for children to come to school in their house colours.

• Sales – bags and house t’shirts continue to be sold upon request. We hope for shirts tobe sold in greater numbers before Koori week, the smoking ceremony and then for theathletics carnival.

• Blue-haired Bingo Bonanza ! – Sat June 20The drawcard for the night is that Colleen is calling it!Kathi Hillier is co-ordinating with a small team. Georgina and Matt Andrews and StuartHorton-Stevens have offered to manage the promotion for the event. We need donations from businesses for the Bingo night, the Revue night (Sept 25) andthe Fete (Oct 31). Vouchers for meals, wine, food, cosmetics, clothes, coffees, movies, shows and massages are always popular. We need people to drop into their localhaunts to ask for anything that could be used as prizes, or gifts, or in a silent auction. We have about 4 so far.

• Website – you can now click on S&C to find a blurb, minutes and events calendar

thanks to Michael Texilake.

• S and C Noticeboard – Trudi Fletcher will try and make it pretty when she returnsfrom holidays in 3 weeks. If anyone asks, copies of meeting minutes and any other S&C news will be there.

• S&C Postbox – The newly hand made/hand painted S+C postbox sits alongside theteacher’s pigeonholes. It is a colourful mango colour, and should be easily spotted.Mail and tshirt/bag, payments etc can be delivered to this postbox.
