Executive Committee

• Five new members in the Board in 2010, ambitious and dynamic work, widening capacities.

• Activities reorganised and structured along major clusters of tasks, with roles and responsibilities

• Continuous, efficient collaboration with the Vice Presidents

• Well prepared EC meetings (Budapest, Athens and Dublin) as well as several online meetings

• Improve the EC functioning, performance and structures• Sustain the impact of conferences and improve their business

results• Implement strong membership development activities,

develop further the membership services • Revitalise the NAP area on the web• Upgrade the presence and contribution in EU projects • Strengthen the academic value and impact of EURODL and

the conference publications• Preparations for the renewal of the Open Classroom

Main operational tasks

• Membership development: to enlarge number of NAP members, strengthening the community,

• EU Projects: to promote EDEN’s project services,• Conferences: content and policy development,

enhanced marketing of the events,• Open Classroom: 2011 Conference in Athens,

reform of the Working Group• 20th Anniversary: to promote high impact,

including the strategic evaluation of the past two decades, future scenarios

• Communication: EDEN website renewal in forefront

• Sponsors: systematic co-operation to be developed

• EDEN Secretariat: maintain the good standard of office work and management

Membership

• Membership development and improvement of services high on the agenda

• 2011: development in the affiliate membership structures, in particular in Norway, Lithuania and Russia

• Stable membership in 2010-2011: 195 institutions and 1146 individuals (NAP) in the membership. There are over 400 institutions represented as institutional or NAP members.

• Since the 2010 AGM, 33 institutions joined EDEN – twice as much as in 2010. NAP members increased by 175

• Strict procedure in the EC for approving new members• For 2012, following over a decade of unchanged

conditions, modest membership fee increase is proposed

EDEN Fellows

• System of the EDEN Fellow awards continued in 2010-11.

• The first meeting of the EDEN Fellows was organised in Dublin, before the Conference.

• Valuable discussion about how to support and promote EDEN by policy advice, experience and develop the Fellows’ activities.

• Significance of the group – a unique think tank of EDEN

• Position Paper as deliverable of the meeting, to be presented on Tuesday

• Fellows’ meeting to be developed as tradition, make it sustainable, producing impact and visibility.

Management, Finances, Secretariat

• Rational, transparent and practical approach and decision-making.

• Main blocks of incomes: Membership fees, Conferences, EU projects

• Financial situation checked closely. Cash flow of the Association stable. In the books, 2010 closed with negative balance

• Membership fees: according to the auditors, correct, strict treatment of payments and management of respective debts is requested

• Hosting Service Agreement with the Budapest University of Technology and Economics renewed - stable background for the functioning of the Secretariat

European project work

• 2010: EDEN in eight EU projects, with efficient „service packages”

• Conferences: meeting points, venues of workshops and seminars.

• Good performance in dissemination and exploitation recognised by the EU

• 2011: number of invitations/ proposals with EDEN as partner is 26 – very high

Conferences

• 2010 Valencia: close to 400 delegates, excellent programme, 49 countries represented, 17 % outside from Europe.

• Research Workshop October 2010 in Budapest, 130 delegates, Canada, USA, Australia represented. Outstanding professional content, successful organisation and partnership building

• 2011 Dublin over 420 delegates. Complex conference theme and approach well understood: “Learning and sustainability”.

• Open Classroom Conference Athens, October : „Never waste a crisis” Ellinogermaniki Agogi as host

• 2012 Annual Conference in Oporto, Portugal:„Open Learning Generations” – in the European Year of Active Ageing

• Best research paper - valuable tradition of awarding (in co-operation with the Ulrich Bernath Foundation), in support of enhancement of academic quality

Communication - WEB

• Renewal of the EDEN websiteLayout refreshment, streamlining of the internal structure, better visibility, more contemporary appearance, for transparent and visible content on the site

• Improved content and relevance of the monthly EDEN Newsflashes

• Increasing request for open access to resources Book of Abstracts and full texts of the EDEN conference proceedings in the new Web structure are available online

EDEN 20th Anniversary Year

• 20th Anniversary: is considered as a good occasion for looking back – and forward

• “Anniversary Certificate” Anniversary logo and “Member of EDEN” e-badge sent to members

• Visionary summary: “how do you see EDEN in 20 years”

• Fellows’ Meeting contribution

The future is in the hand of our learners: young people who were born in the year when

EDEN was born
