Club MATTERS

Dear Members,

August has been a wonderful month. The Club has seen increased utilization in all departments by Members. It is an encouraging sign and has kept all of us in the Managing Committee on our toes.

Family Day at the Club saw a large gathering of Members and their families enjoy a great day of fun and festivities after the Flag hoisting by Msgr. Jayanathan. I thank both, Msgr. Jayanathan for celebrating the Thanksgiving Mass at St. Patrick’s Church, and the choir for their wonderful musical contribution. I regret that we were unable to live up to the levels of service we hoped to provide. However we hope A-26’s great music ensured everyone in attendance had a wonderful day.

I am sure many Members have now been served using our new automated order-taking and bill closure/payment system in the quadrangle and at various other locations in the Club. We hope this upgrade will improve our service levels and increase our ability to handle higher levels of Member utilization. We are pleased to inform you that the transition from the manual KOT system was smooth, Thanks to our MIC-IT, Mr. Shashi K Lewis, with the support of the PIT. Our Staff have also done a remarkable job in adapting to the new system with minimal assistance. Our Members can look forward to more automation within various functions of the Club.

For the month of September, Members can look forward to respite from the heat of Bangalore’s second Summer along with many events planned for the month including the Blue & White Ball jointly held with the

St. Joseph’s Boys’ High School’s Old Boys Association (OBA). The following pages will give you further details of all the events.

By the time this Newletter reaches you, the Members will have had a pleasant shopping experience at the CC Souk. Thanks to Naveen Mendonza and his team for giving the Club somet hing new to look forward to and enjoy.

We have been receiving some constructive criticism from Members and I thank them for this. The MC and I are appreciative of any feedback. I assure you that all our efforts are focused on enhancing the experience of the Members and thank all of you for your support.

The structural design work and other related activities have been completed and the Bill of Quantities (BOQ) has been generated.

Good fathers & Great Dads in September.

We were fortunate to have the brilliant Goan Poet and Novelist Tanya Mendonsa at our 4th August, iBrowse event. The hall was full, inspite of glowering rain clouds and the audience was treated to readings of Tanya’s poems from both of her books - ‘ All the answer I shall ever get’ and ‘The Dreaming House’ She read ‘I Sing a song of Goa’ a paean to Goa’s languid lifestyle, specially for the KGA who had jointly sponsored the event..

Sussegad evenings of chatting in the balcaos, kingfi sher days with the ‘Brawling of Buffaloes’. Her song was of the rains that cause the parched land to erupt with green and the ‘ knotted rosaries of families that stretch to lands far away.’ Second -hand night dress’ and ‘Waiting in the Cafe’ were two other poems read out to the audience.

Tanya spent 20 years living in Paris studying French Literature at the Sorbonne, painting and running a language school. After which she spent time in Cooke town, Moira in Goa and now in a beautiful hideaway in the Nilgris blue mountains, where she enjoys her solitude with her partner and dogs. Her novel ‘ The book of Joshua’ which is a love story written with her heart on every page, is not to be missed by dog lovers. The archetypical artist, the evening was relaxed and fun, punctuated with Tanya’s hearty laugh and husky voice.

Her books have her paintings emblazoned across the covers and one can see this multi faceted and talented woman has not hidden her gifts, but has shared them unstintingly with us. To celebrate her birthday, her sister Sunita Vaznaik baked a delicious chocolate cake, which was shared with all the iBrowser’s after a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday! Tanya was presented with a beautiful potted plant rather than the usual bouquets, at the request of conscious iBrowsers, who are keen not to add to the waste in the city.

Indu Balachandran is our second guest author on the 12th of August after which we have Chris D’souza and
