CAPITAL CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE

Welcome to the Spring 2016 President’s Letter. Warmer weather is on the way and I’m excited to share with you some of the exciting happenings at the Lincoln YMCA!

PRESIDENT’S LETTERLINCOLN YMCA

Also, thanks largely to the hard work and leadership of the

dedicated Capital Campaign Committee, we achieved the

campaign goal for the new southeast Y. The new Copple

Family YMCA, which includes an outdoor pool, will open in

Spring of 2017.

A special thank you goes to our donors who made this project

possible and Byron Boslau and Nick Cusick, who chaired the

Capital Campaign along with Honorary Chair Ed Copple. This

expansive, exciting growth in our community would not have

been possible without their leadership and dedication.

This new Y will offer much-needed service, quality family

time and lots of healthy fun in Southeast Lincoln! Watch for

more information as we get closer to the opening dates!

In this time of amazing growth for the Lincoln YMCA and our community in general, we are so fortunate to have a strong, committed and passionate Board of Directors.

This winter we elected our 30-member Board for 2016-2018. We are pleased that

Randy Rankin of RBC Wealth Management and Chuck Norris of Nelnet have joined

the board for 3-year terms to help us work toward our important mission. We also

welcome back Jadi Miller of LPS, Tina Reeves of Firespring, and Dave Shamblin of

Copple Insurance for second terms.

Leading the Board as officers for this term will be Don Hutchens, community volunteer

and Chief Volunteer Officer; Stacy Brass of Union Bank, First Vice Chair; Curt Hartter

of Universal Surety, Second Vice Chair; Lori Druse of Deloitte & Touche, Treasurer; and Kelly Wieseler of Ameritas, Secretary. Kent Endacott of Endacott, Peetz, Timmer; Scott Wieskamp of LPS; and Chris Lindner of BKD

Accounting will serve as the Executive Committee at Large.

I want to take a moment to thank our past CVO—Tom Huston of Cline, Williams, Wright, Johnson and Oldfather — who provided amazing

leadership throughout his term as did our two outgoing board members, Rob Reif of Hy-Vee and Rich Rice of Crosby Guenzel. We sincerely

appreciate their dedication and all of our board members’ hard work and passion for building a stronger Lincoln. Our mission of promoting

youth development, healthy living and giving back to our community would not be possible without all our amazing volunteers. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Speaking of major additions, we are so excited

to see the new Outdoor Pool take shape at the

Fallbrook Y in Northwest Lincoln.

Previously, the Cooper Y was our only facility

in Lincoln with an outdoor pool. It has proved

to be a huge success, so we’re very proud to be

able to bring an additional pool with all of its

amenities to Northwest Lincoln.

Thanks to a generous lead gift from Hausmann

Construction we were able to begin construction

FALLBROOK OUTDOOR POOL

on the new Fallbrook Y Outdoor Pool last fall, and it will open in time for the 2016 summer season! We are still seeking donations

to ensure the pool can open as planned in May.

The pool will feature a waterslide, splash pad, lap lanes, restrooms and a check-in stand outside of the facility. It will all be easily

accessible from the sidewalk and parking lot—and will be a place families can gather and enjoy summertime fun. See you outside

at the pool this summer!

Another initiative I’m especially proud of is our expanded offerings in Chronic

Disease Prevention and Management Programs. These powerful, mission-driven

programs allow us to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those living with

chronic health conditions.

Our offerings for adults include: Y-Lose-It for weight loss and diabetes prevention;

Enhance Fitness for arthritis management; Multiple Sclerosis fitness; Delay the

Disease for Parkinson’s; and Aqua Joints Arthritis. A benefit of these programs

is a relaxed, social atmosphere. Participants have told us how much their balance

has improved since starting these life-changing programs just a few months ago!

PREVENTION AND MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS

For youth to stay healthy, we continue offering year-round swim lessons, Youth Sports, youth fitness training, gymnastics, dance, martial arts,

Teen Night, and much more. We have also seen tremendous success with our HEROES program for youth struggling with weight management.

We are so excited to offer programs that help people from all backgrounds live better, healthier lives. Thank you for allowing me to

share some of the activities at the Y that I am passionate about. We look forward to an exciting year to come, and thank you for being

a part of the Lincoln Y!
