The last several weeks the Erlanger and Evendale Bargaining Committees have worked local issues and have reached a point where we are relatively close leaving economic, and several contractual issues on the table. It has been obvious throughout the talks that a majority of the issues will be at the national table in New York City. Rudy Gomez (Coordinator UAW Aerospace Department), Wayne Reynolds (UAW Region 2-B International Representative), and myself have participated in the National discussions in New York throughout the last several weeks. As each week has passed, there has been no head way on any issues as each side has presented their proposals and has supported them through various pitches. General Electric has talked trends insisting that is the general way of the future, bench marking other union represented corporations suggesting that is a good economic indicator. The CBC Unions, Chaired by IUE-CBC Chairman Bob Santamoor has supported our current health care plans, pensions, as well as other issues backed up with facts. As both sides talk of the next generation of workers, General Electric and the CBC Unions have exchanged strong words and positions with conviction. As we enter the final week, the small table has been formed with the top negotiators from the IUE-CWA, UE, UAW (Brother Rudy Gomez), IAM, and IBEW sit across from the company lead negotiator Mike DeSantis and his negotiating team. Brothers and Sisters,

Negotiations have entered the final week of the 2011 contract negotiations with thetermination of the current contract ending June 19, 2011. The last several weeks the Erlanger andEvendale Bargaining Committees have worked local issues and have reached a point where we arerelatively close leaving economic, and several contractual issues on the table. It has been obviousthroughout the talks that a majority of the issues will be at the national table in New York City.

Rudy Gomez (Coordinator UAW Aerospace Department), Wayne Reynolds (UAW Region 2-BInternational Representative), and myself have participated in the National discussions in New Yorkthroughout the last several weeks. As each week has passed, there has been no head way on anyissues as each side has presented their proposals and has supported them through various pitches.

General Electric has talked trends insisting that is the general way of the future, bench markingother union represented corporations suggesting that is a good economic indicator. The CBC Unions,Chaired by IUE-CBC Chairman Bob Santamoor has supported our current health care plans, pensions,as well as other issues backed up with facts. The start to this final week of negotiations has started out poorly. Spirited dialog has takenplace at the Contract Language table while the Pension/Benefit table had to take a thirty minutebreak after only twenty minutes of dialog due to emotion of a company position. At the Small Tableit was summarized as very difficult and slow going. The company had still insisted on the non-exempt health care plan, however; the company was willing to change the title of the plan from“Salaried to Production….” The CBC continues to pass proposals to improve the HCP plan while thecompany only proposes the salaried nonexempt plan. What is even more troubling is GeneralElectric unveiled a proposal to attack on the post-65 retiree health care plan.

As we move through this week working hard to secure a contract that supports our future, Iam frustrated that General Electric continues to drive hard decision bargaining while making a profitof over 14 Billion, paying no taxes, while giving CEO Immelt a 4 Billion dollar bonus. Stay focused insolidarity and be prepared to fight for our future as we are no closer to an agreement than we wereon the opening day of discussions.

Erlanger Distribution Center (EDC) celebrated their VPP STARrecertification. Originally certified in 2008 the employeesover at the EDC have worked hard to get recertified in May2011. Here they celebrate the recertification after months ofplanning and hard work. In 2011 the Erlanger site receivedMentor Site status, one of only 4 sites in all of Kentucky tohave this status. Several people spoke at the celebrationincluding Kentucky Labor Secretary Mark Brown, GEspokesperson Harold Jones, UAW president Gary Jordan, andSite Leader Scott Miller. Many vendors came down during thecelebration as well as Fox 19 News to cover the story ofMentor Site status recognition and award.

The Kentucky Labor Secretary, Mark Brown, officiallyrecognized the efforts of the Erlanger DistributionCenter (EDC) with its reward of the VolunteerProtection Partnership (VPP) STAR Mentor Site statuson May 12th, 2011. This award is proof of theoutstanding work the EDC has done in exemplifyingsafety and health performance in the workplace.Whenever another site within the state of Kentucky isattempting to achieve VPP status they can be pairedup with the Erlanger site will help them on theirjourney to achieve certification. There are currentlyonly 4 sites within Kentucky that have the Mentor sitestatus, and the Erlanger site is one of them.

Relay for Life is an organization created by the American CancerSociety to help raise money for cancer awareness and for cancerresearch. The Erlanger Distribution Center has fallen in step fullybehind the 2011 Relay for Life of Boone County KY event being heldJune 17, 2011 at Cooper High School. The Employee InvolvementTeam has done everything they can to raise awareness and moneyto help support this event. One way to raise money for the eventwas a luminary sale remembering those that have lost the fight withcancer and honoring those that have survived its attack. Otherevents have included a taco dinner, pancake breakfast, donut sales,Cincinnati Reds Ticket raffles, and plain donations to the cause. Ithas been claimed that those at the Erlanger site are enormouslygenerous and that many showed up to the different events just todonate some money and walk away.

Butler County Transportation Program

The Butler County office is in critical need volunteer drivers to assist with our transportation program.The transportation program provides free transportation to medical appointments to individuals livingin the cities of Middletown, Monroe, Trenton and the townships of Madison and Lemon. Clients arepeople who lack reliable access to alternative sources of transportation. The program is designed tohelp individuals live independently for as long as possible. Volunteers transport clients in a ChryslerPacifica on Mondays through Fridays, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
