Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!
Thank you to everyone who helped make our transition to our new meeting location a success.
Thank you to everyone who helped me with our January project, helped prepping the brushes, helped with set-up, with figuring out the video equipment, with collecting class fees and selling and distributing sup-plies, with clean-up etc. etc. etc. Thank you to everyone who participated. I had a lot of fun teaching and the brushes were ab-solutely adorable! Great job to eve-ryone!
See you in February!
The February program will be the Peggy Harris birds she designed for all the SDP Chapters of Distinction. These are painted in Folk Art Acrylics but she mentions that they are also cute done with colored pencils--which you may try if you'd like. I will be instructing in acrylics. Program Fee: Free Supplies to bring: Folk Art Acrylics: Burgundy, Burnt Umber, Linen (background color), Lipstick Red, Medium Yellow, Black, Pure Orange, Raw Sienna, Raw Umber, Sap Green, Titanium White and Inca Gold metallic. Michael's, Hobby Lobby and Jo-ann carry these Folk Art paints or you may substitute a like color from your own sup-plies. Brushes: 1/8" filbert grass comb, #12/0 pointed round (liner), #20/0 script liner
(very fine liner), #12/0 angle, 3/16" soft mop (for blending), old flat brushes. These brushes are available at Michael's, JoAnn, Hobby Lobby and probably Blick and AOE. I highly recommend you have these very small brushes or you will have diffi-culty with all the detail. You need to look for Royal Langnickle, Princeton, and Mas-ters Touch (HL), the Synthetic Golden Taklon bristles. Be on the lookout for a sale or use your coupons as they can be pricey if you purchase several not on sale. Other Supplies: Folk Art Blending Gel Medium (optional) or JoSonja Magic Mix (I will bring), hair dryer other usual acrylic painting supplies Surface preparation: Base coat with Linen, 2 coats, sanding lightly between coats. Peggy suggests spraying your prepped surface with a matte acrylic spray be-fore transferring the design lightly with grey graphite paper. I personally do not use matte spray, but it will help you remove paint if needed. PLEASE HAVE YOUR SURFACE PREPPED, DESIGN ON AND READY TO PAINT BEFORE CLASS. I strongly suggest that everyone use the largest line drawing. These are small birds with minute details. You will need to have the best tiny brushes you have to avoid stress when painting such detail. I found some 6" round discs at Walmart, made by Plaid, that fit the larger design just right. Or, you may have the perfect surface in your own stash--it doesn't have to be an ornament. I always love seeing what eve-ryone brings to paint on. . The pattern and project instructions are on the FSDA web site in a downloadable PDF. www.fsdatampabay.com Kathy will not have a printed copy of the project instructions to hand out. You will need to print it yourself. I will send out the PDF’s with the February NL. Contact me if you have questions: [email protected] 210-274-1395

FSDA did not conduct a January meeting, therefore there are no minutes. The project began immediately after announcements were made.
Bonnie Phillips & Carol Barker
A survey was in the January newsletter asking members to let me know their wants and wishes as to Seminar instructors. Some members attending the January meeting suggested, in order of the most to least:
Oil - Cheri Rol, Jean Archer
ACRYLIC - Jamie Mills Price, Lynn Merritt, Rosemary West (equal)
WATERCOLOR - Mark Polmancek, Tom Or Bonnie Jones
COLORED PENCIL - Janelle Johnson, Pat Lentine, Mark Menendez (equal)
OTHER - Mixed Media, Pam Thomas, Stephany Robinson/Erika Joanne (acrylic or paint & CP).
Sandra Hoffman our President will teach an oil portrait class for those interested. Either a one day class where everyone paints the same portrait, or a 2 day class painting a portrait of a per-son of your choice. Let me know if you are interested.
Twenty Nine different instructors were listed by members at the January meeting. Some no longer travel, some will be too expensive & many did not get enough votes.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could take a class from all 29 instructors? Seminars need to be set up months to a year or so in advance. The earliest I’m able to set up a seminar for 2020 is this summer.
Stephany Robinson will teach a colored pencil or acrylic Erika Joanne design on Saturday, July 25. Mark Menendez will teach a colored pencil August 29. We may have Rosemary West the last week of September for a two day. This one is more expensive so not sure if it will work out. In addition we will be looking for an oil and watercolor instructor and other possible teachers for 2021.
If you did not get the chance to fill out the Seminar instructor survey or have remembered someone else you would like to take from, please let me know.
As Seminar Chairman I’m going to keep the FSDA Seminar fee for members no more than $50 per day as Education is one of the main reasons FSDA exists. That plus the fact members pay $60 per year for SDP membership and $20.00 for the FSDA membership for the privilege of learning Decorative Art techniques. I’m looking forward to taking some seminars this year and hope you are as well.

Sandy taught a great class, painting faces on paint brushes.
She has a new toy; an Apple TV box, it plugs in to a TV with an HDMI cord, and works wireless with the IPhone. Once the
IPhone is turned on to the camera function, the image ap-pears on the TV Screen. The color and size is great. She also bought a stand for her IPhone which makes it easy to position over the painting. It is easy to see the teacher demonstrate the parts of the project.
There isn’t a Philanthropic Chairperson.. Please consider volunteering for this important position
Ways & Means: Jean Archer Our January Ways and Means raffle brought in $55; not bad for our small group present. We have plans to bring some more wonderful items for February’s raffle. We will have a special wine basket with beautiful hand-painted glasses and chocolates. Several other items including the lovely tea set in the photo; hand painted by Pam Thomas. See you in February! Jean
To everyone who has Volunteered; Thank you , but I still need volunteers .

If you can, arrive early, near the Fair Start time. It is easy to park near the Gate 2 en-trance. If you need to drop of supplies or if you are having to park way out in the parking lot call or Text my cell phone 813-727-6694 and I will meet you at the Florida Gate to give you a parking pass.
Our tables will be near the middle of the Florida Center, as usual near the Restrooms.
I will have flyers for FSDA, and calling cards to hand out.
Spin the Wheel for prizes. Like last year: please one spin per person. If a child want to spin be sure to ask the adult first.

(Please keep the Candy and pens out of easy reach of people passing our booth and only give them to people who have won a prize) Maria Bouris has donated 50 painted book marks and 50 bookmarks that can be painted. Pam Thomas donated some painted items left over from Painted Treasures, and I have some small items including some art supplies that I am donating. If you have any small painted items or art supplies you can add to the list please plan to bring them or call me so I can pick them up. If you are uncomfortable having the Spin the wheel out please take it down and put in the office.
I will have some designs to be painted, paint, brushes etc., It will be up to you if you want to put them out.
The Pattern books (we have lots) please make sure at least one box is out on the table. If you need help lifting them, ask one of the men around to help you. They are FREE as many as anyone wants. Jean doesn’t want to store them!!!!!!
