elcome to this issue of FMC! We are about to embark on a new chapter of development as the new council will be

formed in October. The annual general meeting and dinner will be held at Hong Kong Regal Hotel.

New and creative ideas are what HKIFM need to continue to focus our expertise and resource to support our FM indus-

try. Let’s gather new ideas and bring them to every corner of our professional life. Following the great success of our

prestigious Excellence in Facility Management Award (EFMA) last year, we are pleased to finalize the new round of

EFMA this year. The result will be formally announced in the coming annual dinner. It is a golden opportunity to those

award-winning facility management companies or organizations to share with us their experience on how to improve

the professional services of FM in Hong Kong and Asia Pacific.

HKIFM successfully conducted a breakthrough lecture to the practitioners in using BIM for Housing Department on 23

and 27/9. Certificates had been delivered to the qualified professionals in recognition of their participation. We are com-

mitted to working seamlessly with the practitioners in infiltrating BIM in the FM processes in a way to reduce the total

life cycle cost for a greener Hong Kong.

Just let us know if you have any thought and new idea!

Happy National Day and Chung Yeung Festival!!!

Following the successful completion of the first round of professional course in application of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in facility management, the HKIFM is organizing another BIM related course with specific focus on works procurements and financial management aspects. The course contents would mainly focus on the following areas: ● What is BIM and what are there in the models produced by Revit Architecture 2011? ● What are involved in BIM based procurement approach and what are the considerations

required to be taken into account before implementations? ● How could the models be used to facilitate works quantification, costing and cash flow

projections? In addition to the technical training on BIM, facilitators would lead discussions on the applications and future prospects of BIM in the above areas. Target attendees are facilities managers, quantity surveyors, building surveyors, contracts managers, etc. who are involved in procurement and financial management of works for built assets. To ensure effective and interactive discussions, the class size would be limited to a maximum of eight attendees per class. Technical trainings would be provided by isBIM Limited, which is one of the Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Construction Modeling and Control (CMC) consultants in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Mr Elvis Li, CEO of isBIM Limited will be the BIM Trainer. Elvis has 17 years of experience in project management and over 9 years of experience in planning and implementing BIM project. He is a member of the BIM Expert Committee of the China Commercial Real Estate Association, founding member and board member of the Hong Kong Institute of Building Information Modeling (HKIBIM), and board member of the China Engineering Graphics Society. Elvis is very active in the BIM field and has been invited to speak at many corporate meetings, seminars, events and industry conferences including the HKIFM, HKIA, HKIE, RICS, HKIS, HKICM, HKHA, HKIBIM, CCCERA, Autodesk AU China and Autodesk AU USA. Mr Anthony Lam, Project Manager of isBIM Limited will be the Revit Trainer. Anthony is a professional member of the Hong Kong Institute of Building Information Modeling (HKIBIM), Certificated BIM design/coordination Manager of China Real Estate Association and Certificated BIM Engineer authorized by Autodesk. Anthony has shared his professional BIM experiences with AECOM, Mott MacDonald, Housing Authority, CRC Construction, Arup, and Hsin Cheong Construction. Experienced professionals from the appropriate sector and/or HKIFM would lead and facilitate discussions to review the BIM applications and procedures in greater depth, and to explore future potential and developments in applying BIM in the works procurement and financial management aspects. The following certificates would be issued to attendees upon successful completion of the course: 1. Certificate of Competence in BIM-WPFM issued by the HKIFM 2. Autodesk Revit Architectural 2011 Course Completion Certificate

Topic Course Outline and Discussion Threads

(1) Introduction of BIM concept and Revit interface

● What is BIM; ● Basic / essential commands in Revit Architecture 2011

(Revit) for producing objects in a building; ● BIM ≠ Revit or AutoCAD; ● BIM itself is not a system software — what should be

established before actual applications.

(2) Schedules and material takeoffs in Revit

● What are the quantification and estimating tools available in Revit;

● What are the outputs that could be provided for subjects in geometrical, regular and irregular shapes.

(3) Elemental measurement and costing

● Preparation of schedule of quantities and price lists of elements for a sample residential flat, covering doors, windows, ironmongery, finishing works, sanitary fittings;

● Review of commonalities and possible differences with trade practice and/or Standard Method of Measurements (SMM) for Building Works.

(4) Setting up of library and inclusion of additional dimensions in the models

● What is a parametric database/library; ● How could such parametric library be created; ● The concepts and procedures involved in producing 3D

Parametric (with attributes), 4D (with time dimension) and 5D (with quantities and cost) models;

● How would these models facilitate preparation of budgets, anticipated cash flows and valuation of work done.

(5) Conversion and modification of models and problem resolving

● How could 2D drawings be converted into models; ● What are the common/ possible problems resulted from

inadequate information in design drawings; ● How could the problems be resolved or alleviated for

works quantification, estimating and procurement; ● How would existing models be modified or enhanced

with the objective in improving communications with other parties.
