    Presenting DALI

Control your light easy, versatile and digital:

Agenda• Introduction: What is „DALI“• Application: How to use DALI• Features: What DALI - Systems can do• Summary: The Key Aspects

    Introduction

There is a new „language“ to talk to electronic lighting control gear:

This sign tells that the system is compatible.

    • DALI = Digital Addressable Lighting Interface• Standardized by IEC (EN) 60929 E4• The Logo is registered by AG - DALI, the

    international supporter of this standard.

    Introduction

    Who is AG – DALI?

AG - DALI (www.dali-ag.org) is an International working group (under the legal framework of ZVEI.)Most major european and some overseas lighting companies are member of AG – DALI.

AG – DALI Tasks:• Worldwide promotion of DALI • Ensuring optimal exchangability of DALI ballasts • Support the application of DALI (Handbook etc.)

    Introduction

    What is DALI ?

    • DALI is the New Digital Interface „Language“ for electronic ballasts (EB)• DALI is no New Installation Bus system (no replacement for EIB etc.)• DALI is no New Building Automation system (no replacement for LON etc.)• DALI is the uniform and standardized method for LON, EIB and other high

level systems to use advanced features of todays ballast technology.• It is the perfect method for stand alone room controler performance• It is the perfect setup to control a small set of intelligent luminaires

    Features

    Wiring requirement

    • Low voltage system (16V pulsed DC), no safety insulation in ballasts.• 2 poles on each device, wire in paralell (no polarity requirements)• Max. 64 devices per DALI - Master (Controller)• No special cabling (twisted pair etc.) requirements, 2*1,5 mm² necessary

to cover full distance • Max. 300m cable run from master to last ballast (2V drop max.)• Multiple cable segments from master possible (tree structure)

    Features

    Address space

    • 64 device addresses• The device address is stored inside the ballast. • There are several methods available to give the ballast an address.• All settings (including addressing) are stored permanently.

    • Each device (address) is part of max. 16 groups• Groups may overlap, membership is stored in ballast!

    • Each device (address) is part of max. 16 scenes• Each device remembers one dim-value (or a „no-change“) per scene.

    • Broadcast methods (=„to / from all“) are available.
