DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS
Wakiso District Demographic Characteristics:
• Total population of 1,997,418 people with a growth rate of 7%. Of which 1,048,383 female
• The population growth rate of 4.1%. (2002 Population was 907, 988 people)
• The population density is 715 persons per square kilometer.
• The sex ratio was 94 males per 100 females,

ROADS-PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
a) Improve the quality of physical infrastructure planning and institutionalize the plans.
b) Decongest traffic from the major transport networks that lead to Kampala Capital City hence increasing mobility.
c) Improve traffic flow within the region hence reducing the travel time and its related costs.
d) Provide a clean and user friendly environment

PROGRAM OUTPUTS
a) Upgrade 462.9km of roads from gravel to a bitumen standard in a phased manner.
b) Construct a bridge linking Nakiwogo in Entebbe to Kasanje in Mpigi
c) Physical Infrastructure Development Plans for Wakiso District prepared.
d) Roads of National Interest identified for upgrading to National standard.
e) Enhance the capacity of Wakiso District to generate locally raised revenue through improved property values. 5
DESCRIPTION AND LOCATION
The first phase covers a distance of 40km along; • Namanve – Kampala, • Kampala – Kawempe Ttula, • Kampala - Kajjansi and • Kampala –Kyengere routes.
Selection Criteria for the Roads in the first phase • To decongest National Roads. The selected roads
should directly link to a National Road. • b) Roads that would improve linkages and
intersections to GKMA and KCCA roads. • c) Roads interconnecting with the commercial
urban centers within Wakiso and the GKMA.

PROGRAM COMPONENTS
1a. Physical Development and Transport plans
• To guide the engineering designs and entails;
i. Undertaking baseline studies and detailed transport plans/infrastructure plans and
ii. Surveying and gazeting road reserves.
1b. Environmental and Social Management Plans
• To undertake environmental impact assessment;
• To compile Social Management Plans.
Pre-Investment costs estimated at (8%) USD 31,797,200

2. Land compensation, Resettlement plans, and Utility relocation. Provisional (lawful) compensation costs and re-settlement. Est.(30%) USD 119,239,500
3. Feasibility studies, Design, and Consultancy To Design, and Consultancy at (6%)USD 23,847,900
4. Construction Works (462.9Km) road and a Bridge To Construct 5.2km long bridge linking Nakiwogo in Entebbe Municipality and Kasanje to in Mpigi District at an estimate cost of USD 4.0Million.
Total Works is Est. at USD 397.5 million
