A CANADIAN TRACK & FIELD EXPERIENCE

The Nike High School Grand Prix is a track and field experience that will allow high school athletes across Canada to come together in a celebration of sport, culture, and team pride. High school track and field teams will have the opportunity to take part in a weekend of activities in Toronto that will involve tourist attractions, educational panels, social activities, and a one-day track and field meet to showcase Canadian student athletes.

The Nike High School Grand Prix will be a one-of-a-kind experience that will:

‣ Inspire excellence in high school athletes‣ Unite student athletes from across the nation ‣ Celebrate the sport of track and field in Canada

Dates: May 10-13, 2012

Host City: Toronto, Ontario

Host Venue: Varsity Centre, University of Toronto

Host Accommodation: Victoria University Residences

SHOWCASING CANADA’S RISING STARS

ONE high school male and ONE high school female track and field team will be selected by their provincial/territorial high school athletic association to participate in the Nike High School Grand Prix. These 24 teams will represent a truly national event to bring together student athletes and teacher coaches from across Canada.

A CELEBRATION OF CULTURE

The Nike High School Grand Prix will allow student athletes to come together to build friendships and share their experiences, while taking in the sights and sounds of Canada’s largest city. Activities will include:

Banquets and Social Activities

May 11: Meet and greet with fellow students at the Nike High School Grand Prix opening banquet to kick off the weekend’s activities, while hearing from a keynote speaker and enjoying dinner.

May 12: Be recognized for your successes and sportsmanship at the awards banquet to cap off the day’s track and field competition, while celebrating the close of the Nike High School Grand Prix with fellow teammates and participants.

Experience Toronto

Take in Toronto’s sights & sounds, culture, and history by exploring the tourist destinations made available to all event participants. Activities include:

A CELEBRATION OF TRACK AND FIELD

The Nike High School Grand Prix will be a celebration of the sport of track and field. The event will unite those who are passionate about the sport and provide them with an opportunity to showcase their talents and engage with other student athletes from across Canada in an educational and athletic experience.

Track and Field Meet:

May 12: Athletes will compete in both qualifying and final rounds of 10 track and field events. Unique to the competition format, the meet will feature a cross-provincial relay that will allow athletes from different teams to compete together for the first time. Nike High School Grand Prix events include:100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 110m hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put, 4 x 100m cross-provincial relay

Athlete Panels:

Canada’s track and field athletes began their road to success in high school track and field. Participants will be provided with the opportunity to hear the stories from national athletes who have made their mark on Canadian athletics and gather valuable tips and insights to apply to their own lives.

Nike Team Uniforms:

All school teams will be provided with complimentary Nike team track and field gear, including: spikes, singlet, shorts, jacket, pants

COST TO ATTEND

Nike High School Grand Prix participants will all receive the following:

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Travel

• Transportation from the team’s nearest central airport to Toronto (only if air transport is required - form of transportation dependent on the region of Canada the team is traveling from)

• Cost per participant is the same for every participant - not dependent on the region of Canada the team is traveling from

Accommodation • Three (3) nights stay at Victoria University of Toronto residence

Transportation • Transportation throughout the weekend

Experience Toronto • Sight seeing tour of Toronto’s best sights and sounds

Nike Team Uniforms • Custom track and field gear for all 24 school teams

Meals • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner covered for the entire weekend

Athletic Banquet • Awards ceremony and banquet following Saturday’s track and field events

FUNDRAISING IN THE COMMUNITY

The Nike High School Grand Prix fundraising program will allow teams to work collaboratively to obtain financial support from local businesses and contacts. Communities will be encouraged to help support their team as the team participants each strive to raise $650.

Teams will be equipped with all the fundraising tools and guides necessary to raise the required funds, including team-building fundraisers to gather local community support from friends, families, teachers, schools, and local businesses.

Fundraising kits will be distributed to all 24 school teams once they have all been selected by the provincial/territorial high school athletic associations.
