Worked a Production Sale for the first time Learned how much time and effort goes into
preparing for and running a sale Got better at Clipping Learned that an important part of sales is
public relations With the owners And with the buyers
At the Sales
Met many US Jersey employees Met a lot of Jersey breeders and people
involved with the Jersey breed Learned the technical parts of a Sales Like:
◦ Prepping Animals◦ Feeding and Watering◦ Getting cows comfortable and ready to sell
Other things I gained from Sales
A big part of Appraising is being able to talk to and deal with farmers
Making Sure they understand the process Getting people signed up for REAP Keeping people on Reap Organizing things as an area Rep Being fair
Traveling with Jersey Appraisers
Learned how to score◦ Each trait has an individual score◦ Getting a ball park score on a cow before you
break her down◦ I also learned the measurements used to break
down each trait
Traveling With Jersey Appraisers
Reinforced my aspirations to become a Jersey Appraiser
Learned how to tie a slip knot Learned that I never want to live in a city as
big as Columbus I would prefer to not to work a job where
the majority of my time is spent in an office
