The Student Council members with be introduced to read aloud skills, and apply skills in guided practice activities in preparation for reading Christmas stories to Pre-K students.
Condition the child’s brain to associate reading with pleasure
Creates background knowledge
Build vocabulary
Provide a reading role model
Start with picture books. They have fewer sentences.
Familiarize yourself with the book by scanning it before reading.
Discuss illustration on the cover.
Make sure to show pictures.
Don’t be shy.
Read with expression.
Create voices for different characters.
Vary your pace. Slowing down builds suspense. Speeding up adds excitement.
