Core Technology / IP Selected Supplier

Core Technology

Energica Motor Company S.p.A.

• VCU – Vehicle Control Unit. Energica’s battery, inverter, chargerand ABS are constantly monitored and managed by onetechnological jewel: the VCU, completely designed and developed byEnergica, it implements a multi-map adaptive energy, and a powermanagement algorithm manages the electric motorcycle. Carefullymonitoring and adjusting the motor’s power according to thethrottle thrust 100 times per second while riding. Energica Softwarehas reached 1.1 million of program lines (645,000 program linesjust for the VCU), over 200,000 more than a Space Shuttle.

• Supply Unit. This important technical component contains entirelythe rechargeable batteries, sealing them in-house. Usually thebatteries, contained in this component, warm up: the produced heatdissipates only minimally. Therefore, the batteries contained in thecase are subjected to overheating, which would greatly reduce thelife cycle. Energica battery case has been designed to avoid theoverheating. The case includes the cooling plate made of aluminumand provided with several through-holes that communicate outsideand cross the cooling plate. Energica is the only electric motorcyclemanufacturer to adopt this technology.

• eABS. The latest generation eABS mounted on the Energicamotorcycle is able to limit the maximum regenerative torque in caseof slippery conditions. In particular, the system verifies thepresence of friction conditions and, in the case of slipperyconditions, limits the maximum regenerative torque.

The Rogers Diffusion of Innovation • Developed by E.M. Rogers in 1962, the Rogers Diffusion of Innovation Scale is one of the oldest social science theories. It originated in communication to explain how, over time, an idea or product gains momentum and diffuses (or spreads) through a specific population or social system.

• Based on the growth in the past three years for EV4 sales, the tipping point for explosive expansion and broad consumer acceptance is only three or four years away.

Momentum: The Future is Electric
