Who would be the audience for your media product and how would you attract them?

Horror genre movies have been very successful through out the years and have gained a large audience through out the time. We have decided our opening film is going to be based on a 16-21 age rating.

-Throughout our opening scene we have edited the music many times during our editing process to make it adapt as best as possible.

One of the dominant parts of the music edit is where it first cuts from the mysterious church, to the girl waking up and realising where she is.

It attracts the audience with a ‘creepy’ voice, which gives away the idea that something involving this girl is going to happen later on in the opening. The credits are slowly coming up, with the normal ‘toy box’ music being played.

The ‘toy box’ music continues playing in the running scenes as there isn’t much tension going on at those points.

On the scene where it cuts to the girl screaming and slowly leaning down, the ‘toy box’ music slows down a little bit so the audience can hear the girls scream, and to bring out in evidence the evil laugh in the background.

It draws the audience in and it gives them a sense of scare to fit in with the emotion on the screen.

At this point the audience can tell that the girl has been killed.

The music is slowing down, to bring out in evidence a creepy voice in the background which we could all understand it could be the unknown murderer.

The male character falls down onto his knees, with the music continuously being played slow to bring out in evidence the killers laugh.

This medium close up was used as one final look at the victims facial expression played in slow motion and with the ‘toy box’ music being played very low, it gives the audience a sad impression about the victim.

At the end of the clip, the music fades out slowly to show that the opening has come to an end. The clip slowly fades out in black.

We have used our knowledge to get the idea of how horror films make people feel to be certain that viewers are attracted to our opening film.

We decided to put the actors in danger to build tension within the clip. This allows the audience to feel scared, but also safe as they are not the ones who are in danger. A lot of people enjoy watching horror films, as sometimes its exciting and mind-blowing. It is also important that the horror film has an interesting opening and builds tension quickly to draw the audience in and not get them bored.

Another reason why people watch horror films, is to be aware of the danger and causes that they see in the film, which may also happen in real life.
