Comparison of front cover• Although my front cover for my preliminary task happens to have many of the

conventions required from a front cover such as plugs, pulls masthead etc. However the layout of my images have not been thought out it’s been put on the page with no thought making it look odd. My typography was all in different fonts making it distressing for the readers and the colors for my text were black and Wight clashes with the colors of my background making the page look to busy and quite distressing.

• When taking in to consideration all the errors of my first magazine I have lent to thoroughly doing my market research it allows me to know exactly what I want from my front cover , a key issue again with the front cover was timing my student magazine was my first draft were as on my main task I constantly made different drafts modifying it even the masthead i went through a list of 15 names narrowed it down to five and designed it in different Gothic styles and picked one out of it. whereas I didn't go through this process the first time on which taught me to be persistent ,it also enhanced my Photoshop skills as you can see I barely could use it when I started the preliminary task now I’m able to do the basics.

contents page • The first contents page is my preliminary

task as you can see that I have done more research for my main task. I was persistence and was constantly redrafting it to make sure that it presented all the conventions of a rock magazine. In my main protect I present many conventions such as issue date, cover date, regulars etc. All of which I did not include in my preliminary task. I only did one draft of my preliminary task and submitted it however this time I was not going to make the same mistake I had made over four drafts of my contents page. To insure that I was perfectly happy with it. The one thing that helped me when I was making my contents page. I was constantly looking for examples of other contents pages to find inspiration not only form actual magazines but from also other media bog's.

What have I learnt form my preliminary task

• There are many things to which I have learnt from my preliminary task such as how to ask effective questions when doing your market research and what different ways could you carry that out for example survey monkey, interview question airs. I did survey monkey and interviews because survey monkey is exposed to more people but as I experience not everyone fills in your survey properly so I did interviews to insure that answers are properly answered and if they have trouble answering a question I can prompt them rather then them leaving it blank in a survey. I have also leant to be better organized although I met my deadline for my preliminary all my work was rushed not showing my greatest qualities. I have become better at research into my genre. I have drastically improved on my Photoshop skills and my camera skills.

Quality of photos• From my preliminary task I learnt that to plan each photo shoot and to consider editing

beforehand as in my preliminary task I didn’t consider my mise-en-scence properly it was set in the study area however in some of my photos some of the student and teachers were in the way. I didn't think about what types of photos I had wanted in fact I didn't really know what I was looking for. I didn't organize any of my photos it was all taken spontaneously causing the quantity of it not to come out of a higher standard. I my main task I planned my photo shoot thoroughly to the point where I planned each possess and the camera angles I was going to use. I used a plain background in some of them in the others I edited the background out. I also re-took my photos a few times as I was starting each section of my magazine.

editing

• As I barely knew how to use Photoshop my images where bear and was lacking manipulation. The furthest that I went was crop my image. However I have learnt a lot more about Photoshop in the process as in able to change images black and Wight, change the colors of image for example change hair or eye color to remove unwonted parts of an image etc.
