• Reggae was first developed in Jamaica the late 1960s.
• Reggae is based on a rhythmic style characterized by accents on the off- beat, known as the skank. Reggae is normally slower than both ska and rocksteady
HISTORY OF REGGAE MUSIC
• Reggae developed from ska, mento and R&B music in the 1960s.
• Early 1968 was when the first genuine reggae records were released: "Nanny Goat" by Larry Mashal.
• Bob Marley and Peter tosh - 1963 and produced iconic songs like Buffalo solider.
• In 1960,reggae relocated to England in 1962, where he continued to promote Jamaican music.
• 1970 - "Golden Age of Reggae" corresponds roughly to tell the story of life
• In the second half of the 1970s, the UK punk rock scene was starting to form, and reggae was a notable influence.
CURRENT OF REGGAE
• Influences of dancehall came in after 1970’s. • Themes of social injustice, repatriation and
the Rastafarian movement were overtaken by lyrics about dancing, violence, and sexuality.
• Popular artists are collie buds, junior reid, movado, vybez kartel and munga.
• However there are artists that neglect this type of movement and use humorous factors. Artists include eco-mouse and yellowman.
