Rajesh Sai Babu born to a Royal Ancestory of Renowned Mayurbhanj Chhau performers, the grandson of “SANGEET NATAK AWARDED GURU ANANT CHARAN SAIBABU” and son MAYURBHANJ CHHAU GURU JANME JOY SAIBABU I had very successfully carried forward the legacy of this traditional dance form throughout the years.

Now his mission is to expand Chhau Dance of Mayurbhanj, UNESCO’s heritage, with elements of folk, tribal, martial and traditional classical art, this beautiful and virile dance form from East India renowned for its stormy and dynamic style on all over the world.

World dancer, choreographer versed in various disciplines, including Chhau dance Bollywood, Modern, Contemporary dance, Indian folk dance (garba, dandia, kabelia) to name a few.

Teacher and performer, giving workshops to dancers locally and internationally, regardless of their experience- desire to make the dance and cultures accessible, understandable, safe and fun!

Chhau dance (Oriya:  ଛଉ ନା�ଚ,Bengali:  ছৌ�� না�চ) is a genre of Indian tribal martial dance which is popular in the Indian states of Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal. It is believed by some modern scholars that the word Chhau is derived from Sanskrit Chāya (shadow, image or mask), but according to Sitakant Mahapatra, it is derived from Chhauni (military camp).The use of swords and shields in combat, with a few martial arts moves thrown in, was all coherently infused with modern dance techniques, stylised gaits of birds and animals, and also movements based on the chores of village housewives. All present in one dance form that robs your senses with extravagance.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION

Learned CLASSICAL Mayur Bhanj Chhau Dance under the Guidance of Guru Janme Joy Sai Babu at Natya Ballet Centre and Sri Ram Bhartiya Kala Kendra in 1999 to 2006 onwards and continuing now also for development of art. Pursuing my post graduation in the classical tradition mayurbhanj chhau dance from GURUKUL CHHAU DANCE SANGAM (DELHI)

- Trained in classical dance bharatnatyam under guru Jyotsna Shourie - Trained in ballet with Fernando Aguilera- Contemporary Dance with Santosh Nair at ( Sadhya). - Creative Dance with Gilles Chyyun at (Natya Ballet Center).- Creative and Experimental Work in Indian Classical Dance with Guru Shashi Dharan Nair at (Shriram Bhartiya Kala Kendra) . - Folk Dances with Paphia Desai ( Indian Revival Group).- Jazz dance with Ashley Loobo ( Dance works).

WORK EXPERIENCE

Currently I had a priviledge to work with Padam Vibhushan Dr.Sonal Mansingh ji as a part of her productions .which has been a deeply enriching tat has helped me grow both personally and professionally. Worked with Danceworx for 4 years as a Performer and Instructor working with IFBC (India Fernando Ballet Company) and Ekaakshara School of Dancing as a Lead Performer and InstructorChoreographed sequences for Tagore International, Bluebells International, KR Mangalam World School, Springdales, Presidium and American Embassy School As a Chhau Dancer presenting several items as a Solo or Group Performances like :-Maritial Art, Dandi, Mahadev, Saptarathi, Hunter, Natraj, Geeta, Judi, Chandra Bhaga, Dhaja Tal etc.
