PARATHYROID HORMONE
• Produce the parathyroid hormone• Four small glands• Found in the neck behind thyroid gland• Each gland is about the size of a grain of rice
PARATHYROID GLANDS
Raises the calcium level in the blood, which keeps the body functioning normally

FUNCTION OF THE HORMONE
The thyroid gland is similar to a thermostatMaintains a strict level of calcium in the

is producedIf the calcium level gets too high, the
hormone stops
NEGATIVE FEEDBACK
• More common in women• Usually only one gland is diseased, but up to all
four can be hyperactive

Usually only occurs from removal of parathyroid glands.
