JESS GOUGHHETEROTOPIA-EXHIBITION ENTRANCE
Jess Gough: Heterotopiaat the Design Museum, London22 April - 18 June 2011
A Photographic Exhibition featuring Jess’ latest work. An exploration of the hidden parts of New York and Pennsylvania in June 2010, using a Contax T3 and a Kyocera Yashica Microtec Zoom.
The brief was to brand and promote this exhibition. A consideration of the internal design and curation of the exhibition must take place, but this service would usually be externally sourced. Printed and digital branding and promotions must be at the fore front of the design direction.
Proposed would be a temporary mural to the exterior of the Design Museum building to coincide with the duration of the exhibition.

JESS GOUGHHETEROTOPIA-EXHIBITION CATALOGUE
As with most exhibitions there would be a catalogue of the work available to purchase, as an accompaniment or reminder to the event.
This catalogue is a full colour CMYK sixty four page perfect bound royal sized (234mm x 156mm) book, printed on 170gsm matte stock. The photographic work is the focal point, supported by experimental typography and layout, to enhance the visual strength of the overall catalogue.
The typographic content of the catalogue is based strictly on a nine by nine grid, and only uses, CMYK Black, Pantone 1787C at 100% & 50% tints. The numerals are a bespoke typeface based on a hexagonal grid structure. The only typeface used is Akzidenz Grotesk Light Bold Italic at 100pt, 42pt, 30pt, 14pt & 9pt. There are also some hand drawn typographic elements included.

JESS GOUGHHETEROTOPIA-PRINTED PROMOTIONS
To promote the event, A2 posters would be heavily plastered around London in large multiples, they would be double sided, so the arrangement in each location would always vary.
The flyers also work in a similar way, as they join together to make one larger image, whilst still containing the same necessary information on each A6 flyer.

As well as printed ephemera there would be digital promotions created as well, in the form of a an e-flyer which the client could send out to her mailing list and anyone else she wanted to attract. The size of the artwork fits perfectly inside one mail window, so doesn’t need any scrolling to digest the information.
Also there would be the title and a thumbnail on the Design Museum’s exhibition page.
JESS GOUGHHETEROTOPIA-EXHIBITION WEBSITE

There would be an accompanying website for the event, which has a home page full of the collection of images. The header is in a fixed position, and hovers above the scrolled images for constant navigation.
Upon clicking on the Exhibition Details there would be a white text box appear, with the text content and the images are masked by a 50% transparent white box, to lessen the distraction during reading.
Similarly, when images are clicked on they expand to three columns in width and the remaining two columns allow for a text box, containing information about the image and how to purchase a print of the selected image.

JESS GOUGHHETEROTOPIA-DOWNLOADABLE APP
The app will be downloadable from the QR code, which is on most printed materials. The app itself would function similar to the website, where all the images and their accompanying information are available, and a purchasing option, but also it would offer a portable service getting you to the exhibition and added information during the visit.

JESS GOUGHHETEROTOPIA-EXHIBITION INTERIOR
The proposed exhibition would be set at the Design Museum in London, so the available space and floor plan has been taken into consideration. With the photos mainly being taken in New York, the exhibition would be set in a street set up similar to the layout of New York streets/blocks.
The room would be moderately dark, allowing for sensors around the images to pick up audience and trigger a street lamp style light to enlighten the image for viewing.
The image caption/details (far right) will be small white plaques with the typographic direction following through from the catalogue.
