TRANSCRIPT
‘Carbon-rich form of charcoal that can be applied to agricultural
land as part of agronomic or environmental management.’
(Department of Agriculture, Fishery and Forestry 2011)
What is biochar?
Biochar’s porosity helps retain water for long periods and releases it to crops when soil becomes hot and
dry.
How will Biochar help the Region’s environmental concerns?
Water Availability
Yield Prosperity Yield LossThe region’s yield loss is caused by minimal water availability and poor
soil quality.
Biochar additions to soil can produce yields greater then either
fertiliser or biochar alone.
