The term morphology is generally attributed to the
German poet, novelist, playwright, and philosopher
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749–1832), Its etymology
is Greek: morph- means ‘shape, form’, and logy: study.
So is the study of form or forms. In linguistics
morphology refers to the mental system involved in
word formation or to the branch of linguistics that
deals with words, their internal structure, and how they
are formed. Morphology contains the rules which allow
the speaker to increase his/her linguistic competence

The knowledge of morphology is necessary in order to
know the way the human brain works and processes
language. It will help to produce new alternatives to
learn languages, which are more economical in time and
effort than those we are using now and it will permit its
application to artificial intelligence.
