Characteristics of the Textile and Apparel Industry in Colombia
In 2017 the textile - apparel sector REPRESENTED
6% OF THE INDUSTRIAL GDP.
As for EMPLOYMENT, it is estimated that the
sector generates around 600,000 jobs
throughout the chain. Clothing production
provided 74% (425,126 jobs).
According to RUES (The National Business and
Social Register of Colombia), there were a total
of 16,177 registered fashion system companies
in 2016 of which 0.9% corresponded to large
enterprises, 15.6% to SMEs and 83.6% to
microenterprises.

Shapewear, an internationally renowned industry
The sector includes garments that have added value, such as: bands for posture correction, abdominal bands to raise
body temperature and textiles with special properties.
There are a variety of designs tailored to the needs of the
client, whether for molding hips, abdomen, waist, legs,
buttocks or bust, with products such as bodies, T-shirts, bras,
bras, cyclists, among others.
The sector uses soft materials and a diversity of materials,
including: seaweed or caffeine to lose weight, including milk
and oats to nourish the skin, for example.

Colombian offer Includes a great variety of products
Within the shapewear category there are products focused on post-surgical
and others focused on modeling the body (daily use, shapers, reducers,
thermal, sports, outerwear, among others). Sizes range from 3XS to 8XL.
Gilders made in Colombia have a firm structure, low elongation and high
recovery, so that the product always maintains its form and high quality.
Colombian products stand out among the world-wide offer since they are
manufactured with different functional textiles and the latest technology in
combination with a great variety of designs providing as a result, a wide
range of functions for different needs.
Colombian shapewear has also been incorporated into outwear such as
leggings, jeans and one-piece swimsuits, reducing up to two sizes.
