Current Issues

Obsolete technology

Even though magnetic technology is still produced, its

application is limited to environments with a low volume

of information management

High maintenance costs

Since magnetic technology features electro-mechanic

equipment and requires constant fine-tuning (even for

magnetic card-reading), it implies high maintenance

costsº

Technological:

Weak security

The current solution stands unprotected against forgeries

and fraudulent copies

Information losses

The current solution’s characteristics leaves room for

information losses during validations, with an associated

over-cost due to recuperation and/or reconstruction efforts

Impossibility to evolve the pricing model

Page 7: Presentación de PowerPoint 2017_E… · Service: • Limited mobility information • Partial knowledge of travelers’ behavior and needs • Operators: • High maintenance and

Service:

• Limited mobility information

• Partial knowledge of travelers’ behavior and

needs

Operators:

• High maintenance and incidence resolution costs

• Non-automatic management systems

Managerial:

Users:

• High number of support-related incidences

• Customer Service is basically face-to-face

• Impossibility to recover lost/stolen titles

Information:

• Heterogeneous real-time transport network information

• Partial information service

Current Issues

Page 8: Presentación de PowerPoint 2017_E… · Service: • Limited mobility information • Partial knowledge of travelers’ behavior and needs • Operators: • High maintenance and

Difficulty to expand system

The introduction of new transportation titles is very expensive due to the

current solution’s exhausted capacity

Functional limitations

Many management needs can’t be completed due to the lack of capacity

of both the current solution and the magnetic band

Purchase and usage fraud by certain collectives

T-Mobilitat chips are:

An integrated circuit (IC) with a dedicated micro-

controller designed to enable loading of transport

and mobility applications

Standardization

T-Mobilitat chips mandatorily act as a normalized

(ISO/IEC 14443) communications interface, and also

allow standard (ISO/IEC 7816-4) data storage and

exchange

High-capacity chip

Secure

T-Mobilitat chips incorporate certified cryptographic

mechanisms and protocols that guarantee non-cloning,

as well as full confidentiality, integrity and authenticity in

all T-Mobilitat transactions

Multi-application

T-Mobilitat chips allow users the loading (and deleting) of

Scalable and Interoperable Solution

To support different pricing models

To be interoperable

To be scalable

The system has been designed

according to international norms,

in management and its supporting

technology systems, allowing:

Mo

bil

ity

Transport

Mobility:

Allows the coexistence of all mobility

modes:

Public transportation, parking lots, tolls,

public biking, etc.

Transport:

All transport companies work in sync,

according to central ATM specifications

New technologies:

New products

New chips

New technologies

New pricing models

Mobility Management

The solution becomes a mobility management

and transport planning support tool

Technology Maintenance and Operation

The new solution improves the ticketing

technology’s maintenance and operation tasks,

and reduces the impact on the transport

services’ operation

Ticketing management is based on the following factors:

New Management Model

Customer Service

Implementation of a new customer service model,

supported by two new Customer Service Centers and

operator service points

Mobility Information

Transport information model supported by two new

interconnected Transport Information Centers

Page 20: Presentación de PowerPoint 2017_E… · Service: • Limited mobility information • Partial knowledge of travelers’ behavior and needs • Operators: • High maintenance and

Better user-mobility information, which

allows adjusting supply to real demand

Increase the most used transport services, with

the associated rise in client satisfaction

Adjust services with over-supply, with the

associated cost-reduction

The use of new management tools, supported by passengers’ total mobility traceability

(anonymized based on their validations) provides the system with the following advantages:

Mobility Management

Increased client satisfaction regarding public

transportation services, due to substantial

improvements to its ticketing system

Gives the transportation system a tool allowing it to

implement changes with ease

Pricing system changes

Integration of new mobility services

Page 21: Presentación de PowerPoint 2017_E… · Service: • Limited mobility information • Partial knowledge of travelers’ behavior and needs • Operators: • High maintenance and

Reduction in tasks for user-incidence solving

Less impact on tasks regarding transport services

Service quality improvement

Improvement in the control over the state of

the technological equipment

Permanent equipment monitoring

Preventive maintenance

Data analysis allowing predictive maintenance model

The implementation of a more robust solution and monitoring tools provides the

following advantages:

Technology Maintenance and Operation

Reduction in operation and maintenance tasks

Implementation of field element remote management

tools

Operation task reduction

Replacement of electro-mechanic for electronic

components

Removal of components that are worn-off or subject to

constant strain and fatigue

Page 22: Presentación de PowerPoint 2017_E… · Service: • Limited mobility information • Partial knowledge of travelers’ behavior and needs • Operators: • High maintenance and

Multi-point – service through a network of

points, consisting of:

Transport operators’ Service Offices

The Catalonia Customer Service Center

The Metropolitan Customer Service Center

Multi-channel – service is offered through

different channels

Face-to-face

Over-the-phone

Digital

The use of new management tools (CRM) and new relationship channels (web and

app) allow for the implementation of a public transportation traveler service model:

Traveler-Oriented Service

Quality

More comfortable: auto-service through digital and over-the-

phone channels

More reliable: Less incidences

More guarantees: Title recovery

Homogeneous: all service points will offer service based on

the same criteria and rules, with standardized service

processes

These services have to comply with user expectations and improve their experience as

public transportation clients

Page 23: Presentación de PowerPoint 2017_E… · Service: • Limited mobility information • Partial knowledge of travelers’ behavior and needs • Operators: • High maintenance and

Global

Integrates all the information of all the different

transport modes

Covers the entire territory and reaches all citizens

Incorporates static and dynamic information in real-time

The implementation of new management tools (disturbance tools, route engine) and

new communication channels (web and app) will allow the introduction of an

information model for the public transportation user:

Mobility Information

Multi-channel – transport information will be offered

to the user through different channels, managed by

the operators and both the Catalonia and

Metropolitan Information Management Centers:

Web

App

Information services have to be useful for: - Users, so that they can take optimal mobility decisions at any moment with ease - Transport operators, so that they can easily know the general state of the network, and the disturbances that may affect it

100 Social titles (local Administrations)

150 Own titles (transport Operators)

During the first phase of the project’s implementation, all titles remain in place:

Pricing System Remains Unaltered

But it does incorporate:

Exit-validation for all transport services on more than one zone, both for bus and train

Reduction in zone-crossing fraud

Identification of all users with a right to subsidized tickets (in a centralized database)

Reduction in improper purchase and use fraud

A new management system that allows for a more agile way of incorporating new transport

titles and changes in the transport networks
