Activity 19Investing in memories

My uncle had a mustache, a good government job and he

smoked two packs of cigarettes a day. But he was like a boy. When we were children he organized trips for our family. Today, forty years later, we still talk about the trips and enjoy those memories.

He organized every detail very carefully. He bought train tickets and prepared special programs of the places we were visiting. Each program had a special number and the winner didn’t have to carry the bags.

He organized games and competitions such as treasure hunts, modeling competitions, shells and other events. He liked to invite neighbors and friends to join the family for the day, play games and have fun.

He thought money spent in that way was a good investment. When his wife complained about the cost of a family day out, he said: ”It’s not wasting money, it’s investing in memories.”
