Kidz Meadow Childcare @ Buangkok (Blk 979c) Term 1, 2019 Newsletter

MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL

Warm greetings to all parents and guardians. In this term’s newsletter, you will be able to take a look at the events and activities that your child had been engaged in, based on the theme ‘All About Me’, where they learned about their immediate surroundings such as themselves and their friends in school.

There were many activities and events, both indoors and outdoors. We had our Tea Session, Chinese New Year celebration and the launch of Nature Magnified programme at Singapore Botanic Gardens. To expose children further into the Malay and Chinese heritage and culture, we have also introduced termly MTL Cultural Heritage day.

Apart from that, we have monthly parent-child activities as we feel the importance of parental involvement in the children’s learning. With your support, we hope that it gives your child the assurance to succeed and the courage to learn new skills.

The launch of Nature Magnified programme was held at Singapore

Botanic Gardens for children from N2 to K2 from different centres.

Nature Magnified aims to instil the love for nature in the children.

Back at the centre, children created craftwork with items from

nature like twigs and leaves, played scavenger hunt and carried

out nature observations. This programme is conducted twice

weekly, where children will receive a badge upon completion of

all the activities in the termly passports. Do look out for the

parent-child activities too!

KMBC held our Chinese cultural week and Chinese New Year

celebration to create the culture awareness in our children. The

teachers presented on Chinese cultures and beliefs. K2 children

had a short skit about the 12 Chinese Zodiacs. A variety of

activities were also planned for the children, including the infants.

Parents were invited to the annual Tea Session where they learned more

about the curriculum and the operation of the centre. Parents were also

introduced to the enrichment programmes. Apart from that, the teachers

planned activities for parents to experience how learning takes place in

the classroom through a mock lesson.

This term’s Disposition Day, ‘Care for Family’ was held to show

awareness on how to care for their family members, especially the

grandparents. K1 and K2 children together with their family members

had a fun Family Day Carnival. In line with MERCU’s 20th Anniversary

theme of “Giving Back”, parents and grandparents from the four

Northeast Cluster centres were invited to the event. Proceeds from the

event were donated to Singapore Red Cross. Thank you to all our PSG

members who made time to assist in mending the fun booths.

The infants participated in “Ice

Play” activity. They were able to

explore by using their fingers to

touch the cold ice. This activity

helps to enhance their eye-hand

coordination.

All About Me

For this term, children from Toddler Smurfs had fun learning about “My Body” and

also “My 5 Senses”. From dancing to handprint, these activities help to improvise

the children’s eye-hand coordination, social and emotional, and overall literacy. Take

a look at the pictures the teacher captured and see their great work!

Body Parts”, our Nursery 1 Ducktales made their

own creative masterpiece of Body Parts.

中班的小朋友们通过学习歌曲《拔萝卜》，感受学习华文的乐趣，并锻炼幼儿大胆和自然的进行表演，同时体验与同伴做游戏的快乐。

Children were introduced to parts of plants like;

children to the garden to explore the plant. They

K2 children made an emoji crafty art using paper plate. They were delighted sharing their

feelings like “ I feel loved when I’m playing with my family and friends”, “I get scared when I see

a big dog” and “I feel sad when my cat is sick”.

Frozen Banana Lollies

Method 1. Peel the bananas and trim off the very ends if you'd like them

neater. Then chop them each into 4 equal-sized chunks. Thread a

strawberry onto each lolly stick first, then push on the pieces of

banana.

2. When all your banana pops are made lay them on a baking tray

and put in the freezer, uncovered, for 1 hr.

3. Put the yogurt into a tall glass or jug then dip each banana pop

into the yogurt to coat (avoiding the strawberries), then place back

onto the tray to refreeze until set.

4. Melt the chocolate in the microwave in 30 second bursts (stirring

after each blast) then pour into a mug. Dip the end piece of each

banana pop in the chocolate then sprinkle over the hundreds and

thousands.

5. The chocolate should set pretty much instantaneously, but you

can keep them in the freezer until you want to serve them for up to

1 week.

Parents can never tell if their child is either too occupied or choosing not to pay attention. Regardless,

learning how to listen will be benefit children in the long run. People can learn by listening. In a

conversation, sometimes actively listening is more productive than actively speaking.

But listening isn’t just narrowed down to children listening to their parents. Listening is also a way of

identifying. The sense of sound is very important. Without hearing, life would be difficult.

Teaching a child how to listen from a young age is very effective. The following activities will benefit a

child in the long run.

Slow and fast This game activity is all about rhythm. Select a CD to play and have your child listen to various tempos of

music. Every time a fast song is played, ask your child to dance as fast as he or she possibly can. Then

play a slower song and ask your child to lessen the pace. Play a few songs of varying rhythms and see if

your child can pick up on the various speeds.

Going to bed and waking up This activity is a way to train kids about rising and falling. Grab your child’s favourite blanket and have him

or her pretend that it’s time to sleep. Tell them “goodnight” and let them pretend that they are

sleeping. They can even incorporate snoring if they want! Then after a few minutes or so, say, “good

morning!” and see how quickly they get up. Do this a few times until your child picks up on it. This works

as great training for them to get used to for when it’s real.

Clapping the rhythm This is a great activity that tests the attention of children. Ask your child to stand facing you. With your

hands, clap a certain rhythm and then stop. Ask your child to repeat what you just did. See if he or she

can duplicate your rhythm. It is up to you to determine the length and difficulty of each rhythm.

Animal imitations Although this may make you feel silly, it will get kids familiar with the various sounds of animals. From

making moo sounds to barking and meowing, your child will definitely find this activity fun and silly at the

same time.
