CHOOSING A PRESCHOOL PROGRAM...

Choosing a preschool program that is right for your child is an important

decision. This checklist is designed to help you in selecting a preschool

program for your child. When selecting an appropriate preschool program, it is

important to consider your needs as well as the needs of your child(ren).

We urge you to visit several facilities to inspect and interview the preschool

director and/or teachers, to find the best fit for your family:

Questions to ask a Preschool Director

▪ Are policies and procedures clear and communicated to parents?

▪ What is the child/staff ratio?

▪ How long has the preschool been in operation?

▪ What is the philosophy of the preschool program?

▪ Are the hours flexible?

▪ Is there a penalty or fee for picking up my child late?

▪ What are the policies if my child is sick?

▪ What would a typical day be like for my child?

▪ Is the preschool closed any certain days? (holidays, vacations, etc?)

▪ How many other children are enrolled?

▪ Can I drop in and visit unannounced?

▪ Do the children understand the routine and rules?

▪ Do the children initiate interactions with the teachers?

▪ Does the environment fit your child’s personality?

▪ Are there regularly scheduled parent-teacher conferences?

The center is available as a working experience for about 30 Augustana college students who qualify to be teachers aides.

of their child throughout the day. We also offer LIVE video streaming of each

classroom. This gives many parents the reassurance that they can check in on their

child, any time of day. Many out of state family members are also able to log in and see

the child throughout the course of the day.
