I want to thank and recognize the
nurses in the PACU at Presby for the
generosity they have shown to my
son during this devastating time. My
son’s father passed away suddenly
after Thanksgiving. This unexpected
event has left us all with a tremendous
amount of grief during the holidays. His
dad planned on getting him a red BMX
bike for the holidays, and I just want
to thank the staff at Presby for pulling
together and adopting my son. They
went above and beyond to provide my
son with the gifts his dad wanted to
give him.

Introducing: The Diversity Minute Did you know…? Filipinos may be stoic when it comes to pain,so health care providers should not always rely on the expression of pain to determinea patient’s level of discomfort. Some patients may have a high pain threshold, whereas others will moan as a way of expressing pain. Filipinos also tend to be fearful of becoming addicted to pain medications. Th ey prefer medications by mouth or through anintravenous drip over shots. Th e best strategy is to off er pain medications as ordered. Warm
compresses may alsobe off ered as necessary.
