PreSafe is PreVention! Thank you for choosing PreSafe.

We are very proud of the safety lessons that we have created for your children. However, we realize PreSafe is not the world your child lives in. To make our lesson pages most effective, a personal connection needs to be made between the safety lessons we offer and your childs daily reality.

Do our safety lesson, then create your own!

Once your child completes our version of the lesson, make sure they turn each page over and create a personalized version of the safety lesson that applies directly to their daily routines and environment.

Apply our safety ideas to your lifestyle!

    Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Review all of the PreSafe content and decide which chapters or lesson pages are the most important for your children. Use the chapter themes and lesson pages we provide as your guide to establish a new, ongoing safety dialogue with your child. Whenever you discuss safety lessons with children, make sure to have them do the following:

Visualize the hazard.Visualize how that hazard will affect them.Visualize how they will act and react to that hazard. Here are some other Fun Home Safety Tips:

Have a safety week at home to kick off the PreSafe program. The first week, choose a new lesson each day to practice. Follow that up with a regular safety day each week. Make sure your home has working detectors and extinguishers. Create a safety report card for your home with your kids. Display your childs reward stars/certificates in plain view. Role-play our safety lessons with your children.

Get Creative, be Safe and Have Fun!

    FIRE

    HOT

    BURN

    1 Identify

    2 Define

    3 Relate

    4 Respond

The PreSafe four-step learning process encourages children to make correctassumptions and draw reasonable conclusions about each situation. It applies to most hazards and hazardous situations and is how we create the critical thoughtprocess. Heres an example:

This approach allows children to make an emotional connection to the result of the hazard. Analytical and creative thinking are combined with problem solving and reasoning skills to create a safety smart child.

This makes fire - This is fire.

Fire is hot and hurts a lot!

    Fire can burn your skin.

Burns are bad and make me sad.
