PrepositionsThe word preposition comes from Latin: prae ("before") and Latin: ponere ("to put"). This refers to the situation in Latin andGreek (and in English), where such words are placed before their complement (except sometimes in Ancient Greek), and are hence "pre-positioned".

What is a preposition?A preposition is a word used to link nouns, pronouns, or phrases to other words within a sentence. Prepositions are usually short words, and they are normally placed directly in front of nouns. In some cases, you’ll find prepositions in front of gerund verbs.

Prepositional Phrases:Prepositions don't stand alone. They work in groups of words that we call prepositional phrases. A prepositional phrase begins with a preposition and ends in a noun and called the object of the preposition.

Types of Prepositions:There are three types of prepositions, including time prepositions, place prepositions, and direction prepositions.Time prepositions- are those such as before, after, during, and until; Place prepositions- are those indicating position, such as around, between, and against.

Direction prepositions- are those indicative of direction, such as across, up, and down.
