How to use WorkWise

• WorkWise can be used in employability classes and function as textbooks. Instructors can model how to complete exercises, students can work on exercises, and reflect on answers in a group setting. Students can function as peer reviewers on résumés and cover letters. They can also practice interview questions together.

Page 39: Preparing Yourselves and Your Adult Students for Success ... · Unit 2:Preparing for Interviews • Positioning Yourself for Success • Responding to Interview Questions and Objections

How to use WorkWise

• WorkWise can be given to students for independent study under the mentorship of an instructor or coach. For example, a student can work on a chapter on his or her own and then meet with the coach or instructor to review and discuss the answers.

Page 40: Preparing Yourselves and Your Adult Students for Success ... · Unit 2:Preparing for Interviews • Positioning Yourself for Success • Responding to Interview Questions and Objections

How to use WorkWise Exercises could also be integrated into regular ABE classes when you want learners to apply their skills in

• Persuasive writing: Writing a cover letter or a professional summary.

• Sequencing and timelines: Working on job history for a résumé, make a timeline of one’s work history (including volunteer work)

• Journal writing, paragraph prompts, or essay prompts: Answer an interview question.

• Research: Find out about careers with the online sources listed in WorkWise. Have students research companies and draft questions they would ask the company in an interview.

• Create LinkedIn profiles: Students apply technology and writing skills.
