    INDICATION & CONTRA INDICATION

When doctors are considering which drug to

prescribe, they need to consider both indications and contraindications .Indications are medical conditions where the drugshould be given.

Contraindications are medical conditions where thedrug should not be given, or where there ishypersensitivity to that drug . If the patient ispregnant, the doctor must consider whether the drugcould be passed to the fetus. The doctor must alsofind out what other drugs the patient may be taking, including over-the-counter drugs. This is becausemany drugs have adverse side-effects throughinteractions with other drugs, foods or alcohol.
