Classified ads in local and area newspapers

Local labor union business office



State employment offices (don’t charge fees and many employers list openings for both full & part-time work)

Private employment agencies and temp services (may charge a fee for their services!)



School instructors and counselors (check with the school placement office if available)

Internet



Working welders (welders on the job often know of positions that are open or will be soon that aren’t formally advertised; they are a good source for work info such as conditions, pay, etc.)

Indicate your interest in the job and the company

State your name clearly

Review your qualifications BRIEFLY (be conscious of the employer’s time)

Have pencil and paper ready to write down any info/instructions

Double check information by repeating it back to person

Open the letter with a brief reference to the ad or source that inspired you to contact them

State your qualifications briefly

Indicate contact info (telephone & area code, cell, mailing address)
