Learning Style Inventory ★ Take the inventory “quiz”
★ Follow the instructions on the
sheet provided
Everyone learns in their own way➔ Inventory results
◆ Visual?
◆ Auditory?
◆ Kinesthetic?
◆ More than one?
Regardless of what you “scored”, the way in which you learn is unique to you!
Notes on Cramming!➔ Cramming on a regular basis is not the best idea.➔ The way our memory works to retain information, does not work
well when cramming and chances are you won’t remember the material.
◆ It also does not save time and it takes longer for you to try and remember information under pressure
However, if you really need to cram once in a while - here are some suggestions to make your life a little easier …
Notes on Cramming!➔ Be selective
◆ Pick out information that is most important because you can’t learn everything when you cram!
➔ Develop a plan ◆ Decide how much time you have and set time limits for yourself. This will ensure
that you at least get the important information studied.
➔ Recite◆ Repeat the information that you have chosen out loud until you are sure that you
know it.
➔ Don’t be too hard on yourself ◆ Don’t waste precious time putting yourself down - if you feel guilty for studying
last minute, just take it as a learning opportunity for next time.
➔ Reduce anxiety ◆ It’s important to try and remain calm/relaxed; if you get to anxious your likely to
forget the information your studying.
Motivation
It’s not always easy to feel motivated to do something; especially studying.
Here are some steps to take to help get you on the path to motivation:
❖ Commit➢ Consider all the reasons that school is important to you, what do you need to get out of
school in order to get to where you want to be at when your finished?
❖ Attitude➢ Having a more positive attitude can be all the difference - try your best to not be
negative. Try to also take responsibility for your own learning and actions. It’s always easy to blame someone else - like a teacher, but you play a part in your education as well.

❖ Goal Direction➢ Having goals is a good thing! They can help you to focus on things that are important to
you, and help you to determine what you want to do in your future. If you need help with goals there are people you can reach out to for help (last slide).
❖ Positivity ➢ Try to replace negative thoughts with more positive ones. ➢ E.g., “I hate writing papers” -- to -- “I’ll feel great when this paper is finished!”➢ Having a positive outlook on things can make all the difference!
Eat, Sleep, Repeat...★ When it comes time to write your exams, remember to eat
something prior. ○ Even a small snack is helpful!
★ Don’t stay up all night - try your best to get a good night sleep!★ Eat as healthy as you can during the day - and while studying!
○ Try to limit the caffeine (e.g., pop/soda, coffee, energy drinks)○ Too much caffeine may actually lead to confusion and low energy levels
